Good day out, but it was a shame about the weather.

Personally, I thought all the club stands were very good, but it has to be said that the terzo stand was one of the most imaginative.

How is the show & shine competitions judged? I never saw any marking / scoring system ? It just seemed to be lengthly discussions on what the judges prefered? Would it not be better to mark cars on certain aspects?

I had to use my imagination to work out how it was a club stand and not an individual display... Impressive all the same.

I must admit it would be difficult to judge any car in that weather, but as has been said there seemed to be no method/system into the scoring which would surley have made the judges job easier if they had a set criteria to work to. I put my car into the 'show and shine' stand when it was announced over the PA to do so, waited around with it for 20 mins or so and couldnt see any judges around, so locked it up as I had to go and help take down our stand, when I returned it is was all over.
I think that there were some teething problems with this side of the event, but that is only to be expected with it being in its first year. Once they have been ironed out I am sure it will run better next year

Once again, a fantastic day, with all credit to Lord harding and all the other organisers.

With regards to the Show and shine, I think like Rasher and a few others have said, marking on different aspects must surely be taken into account !!

wether the car is used daily, it's mileage and condition, there were certain cars in some groups that were never driven hardly, and had low miles. How do you compare a 6 - 8 year old car to a brand new car or one that's even two year old ?

Once these have all been ironed out, like with all things will be a great show and shine comp

BTW Congratulations to the 3 stands that were chosen as best club stands well done folks

Shame about the weather, you should have had it last weekend! Was it a week later , as it usually clashes with other events?

I was chuffed to be on the winning stand, but I didn't have much to do with it to be honest

The show & shine was good, despite the weather, that wingless silver classic was original & looked great!

All credit to the organisers & the club stands were very good

The wingless classic was mine, thanks for your comments, makes it all worthwhile when someone else appreciates what's been done...
I think I was the only car without a rear wing...

All in all it was a great first event for me, and I look forward to next year.

Many thanks to John Harding and his team for his obvious effort in arranging the event, hopefully we can have some better weather next year.

Lordharding,

First of all thanks for a great show. Shame about the weather. But I believe it was the best NBO so far.

The Show and Shine

Ok, lets clear a few things up.
It was a "Show and Shine" competition, cars showed up and shined (In the wet), it was NOT a concours competition.
The judges were briefed by myself to judge on the cleanliness of the car, and whether people had bothered to clean the car for the actual competition.

It was the first Show and shine at the NBO and was to hopefully encourage people to participate in something different.

I usually leave the "serious" stuff to the SIDC's own inhouse competitions, here we mark each car out of 100 , and everything is judged from paintwork to engines to wheel arches, the marking does include mileage and age. These competitions can become quite serious.

However, in a show of this proportion and the times scales that we had, we could only afford 1/2 hour per category.
It would have taken until midnight to judge each car individually with a marking system.
Also we were not sure exactly how many cars would enter per category, seeing that this was a new concept to most people at the NBO.

I apologise for the Limited edition section. This appeared to be the only flaw in the organisation of the competition. Unfortunately the judge asked to do this category had been wisked away doing other "duties" and I was not aware of this, hence the delay. So please accept my apologies for this.

I hope this clears things up for those of you who were unsure.

I'd personnally like to thank everyone who did enter, as it made the show and shine something good to look at during the day.

I'd like to thank all the judges who gave up their time to judge each category.
It was very hard but you all succeded with flying colours.
All choices/winners were spot on.... so thanks.

Congratualtions to those cars who won.

...and Chris Buckler with his WR1 who won Best of Show.

And for those who didn't there's always next year.

Thanks

Muddy

Don't know if anyone else has mentioned this but if the show and shine it to continue ,surely there needs to be a water supply to allow cars to be washed...
I ended up taking two cars loaded with the Cumbrian Scoobs head quarters gear and water was in limited supply due to the thirsty CS marshalls so how did everyone else manage?

Its easy for local regional clubs to put on impressive and massive stands "oh i forgot this, oh we forgot that, just gonna pop home" Not so easy when I am 233 miles from my home!!!

I have seen the trend over the last year with all local club stands either winning or runners-up!!!
We the SMACS came third! hardly a local club to the NBO, yes we are North England but we travelled 125 miles each way to get there, so we could not just pop home and get what we forgot!

not a valid argument I dont think

We added a BBQ, large format picture of our events, computer time trial with top gear leader board!, Prosports rally car, and like your stand colour co-ordinated it

I enjoyed the day in spite of the weather which was (obviously) outwith the organisers' control but it did mean that I treated myself to a pukka Subaru brolly at last I liked the field and thought that it was bigger than the usual one but it was a pity about the dusty road in that soon turned to something else (couldn't call it mud). I've been to every NBO and the organisation is improving every time. I didn't realise that the Show & Shine was so informal and that pre-entry wasn't necessary or I might have had a go. I thought that the judging was quite quick - I've had experience of entering proper concours (with a 240Z) and, as Muddy says, judging would have taken for ever doing it that way and it would have probably been necessary to judge several classes at the same time to get round it. The trade stands were very good (no Scoobyworld this time) and I spent far too much as usual! See you next year

one thing that most of the clubs could do with is getting our heads together and trying to fathom out how to get the people in the middle of the field to be club members of the different regional clubs....

Agree with that, but the TTS babes had ballons, flyers ,and little gift boxes full of sweets, don't know if you saw any of them but they looked good. They were well cold after getting wet handing out ballons so some sloped of to the pub to get warmand the ones that were left were to cold to do anything,as most of them came wihout a coat as it was warm and sunny up in Co Durham when we left.We even packed the suncream should of been a pac-a-mac

BTW Jasoon which car was yours ?

One word describes this event........SUPERB!!!!!!!!!!!

Ayrshire Scoobies thoroughly enjoyed their weekend & will be back next year

Out of 4 cars on stand & all entered in diferent categories in the show & shine comp we came home with 2 prizes.
Very chuffed indeed.
Hats off to Lord Harding & his squadron of helpers for all their efforts & could you make it a 2 day event next year, I'm sure this would entice more people from further afield.
Cheers,

Del

Talking feed back - keep it coming as its important to us.##

Some great Comments from you all

i didnt even know about the water pipe as we found out about the field at 8AM so it will be used a lot next year

(visions of a wet subaru t-Shirts comp)

The judgeing was a first for us previously doing 3 cars in the whole field the thought of the S&S was something for the spectators to look at and it worked with hugh crowds around the sections that were being judged .

the new layout i think has been a sucess with more stands and tents all round the field I hope the concept of getting new members has worked and I would particulry like feedback from the Stand managers on how many new members signed up and how many leaflets/buisness cards were handed out .

If need be stand managers can then look at selling themselves and the club benefits ( this was one of the many things judged )

Parking as always has worked out well thanks to the excellent marsalling

thanks goes to Polar wear sales for supplying the jackets and I would recomemnd that Company for supplying club stand clothing .

club Stand of the day competion has worked in raising the standards of the displays in particular CW (legendary now) with the SMACS stand can anyone remember last years smacs stand compared to his excellent stand now.

Terzo stand was out of this world and I hope all stand managers visited it to see where he has set standards that has raised the whole profile of the Competion .

Likewise the Wagon stand was just Great with all the criteria i set in the <vision> followed to the letter with just every thing perfect and some of them had travelled from Brighton which shows it does not go to a local stand

#to the certain member who have made personal attacks on the judgeing of the stands Im not going to rise to your baiting and see it as just bitter and chidish that you didnt win anything #

Food prices as mentioned before we can have no control over but its nice to see 8 out of 12 club stands had very good BBQ s

Even more reasons for Independant Club owners to join a local Club and also being able to shelter when God presses the rain button by accident

I think we have got as many Traders as we will ever get with over 50 letters sent out to companys and only 1 reply ,new traders this year were from word of mouth from various clubs and members

I am pleased that everyone this year is happy with the traders and they all reported brisk buisness on the day.

Keep the comments coming as everyhing is noted and will be acted on if necessary to keep on making the NBO better for you all

just a note john.....

the Email shot i put out 2 months ago, it would we are in serious danger of having more traders next year.

Auto Body Works
AAS Exhausts
Car Artz
Megiures
Polished Bliss

They are the ones off the top of my head. im sure there was 9 altogether, they all said they needed a bit more notice, and could we give them 6 months notice of the NBO5.......

having said that, the space you have at LWV, i dont think there is room for 9 more traders and a decent turnout of cars.......

Maybe this is a point to consider?

I thought you wanted feedback this is a valid coment. Feedback can be postive or negative. To say someone is "Childish" is a personal attack. I sure it was not meant as a personal attack on anyone. If you read the comment again I am sure that you will see that.......

The RB5 Owners club have supported the NBO each year unlike some other clubs and we have made it our national meet. We as a club have very high standards. We enjoyed the day regardless of not wining any prizes. That was not even on our agenda for the day.

I think comments made by the RB5 Owners on Scoobynet should be read in conjunction with what has been said on their own forum. Then everyone can decide if there should be a new competition for next year..........

Personally on the Club Stand subject ,I think all the stands are improving and everyone should get a mention but some stands where better than others.

I know I was put on the back foot when asked to talk to Glen about the Cumbrian Scoobs stand.

I was also informed that at least one club knew what was going to happen and had a speech prepared...

Wasn't going to comment on this, (I won't mention the RB5 stand due to my own bias) but otherwise The guys that had the TV set up on the P1, the special editions and a good selection of really tidy cars had it hands down.

(keeping quiet now to avoid a good old fasioned rant)

Dissapointed to hear the stand results but I had a really good day and thought it was well worth the drive from holland to come along. Hopefully will be able to come next year too.

A very good effort, and a shame no one else in the club bothered to turn up. What would the show have been like if all the clubs only brought 1 car?

Likewise the Wagon stand was just Great with all the criteria i set in the <vision> followed to the letter with just every thing perfect and some of them had travelled from Brighton which shows it does not go to a local stand
Unfortunately, and sorry in advance as this will offend. The wagon stand wasn't eye catching and the only one I never went inside for a look around.
