Hi Ron - still lurking

Wendy - STi and WRX have pink badges. Can be had for a few quid on Ebay too

Dr Suess, I dont have my STi anymore - unless you saw me in the S2000?? Triton did some work on mine, as did Len @ Subaru4You (not great experience there either!)

What do you drive? Shall flash if I see you

Wendy, if you have any running issues drop me a PM. I know this model of car very well. I would be having words with who you bought it from in terms of selling it as an STi. The VIN plate will also show its a WRX if you look on the SIDC site.

Not at-all Wendy, these things can be very confusing, even if you do know what you're looking at...... mind you, in some ways you may be slightly better off with it not being an STI, it seems to be the STI's that have 'bottom end' problems with the engines, not wrx's......

Swiss . . .

You are a real mate and a true King among men! Thanks!

It surely beats the Gulag! But now am afraid for the ducks - as I might roast them and eat them as a starter with my boiled cabbage soup!

Enjoy your evening! . . .

Ron, they are both susceptible to engine failure due to the weak MAF issue - its just highlighted even more with the STi due to the extra ignition advance. But Wendy knew that

Wendy, please don't take offence at things that are said on here, it's not meant to be 'anti' women, or anti those that don't know as much as some others might, we are a friendly bunch, with no hang-ups with regard to who may have the best, or fastest, or shiniest cars, at the end of the day, they're all Scoobs, and we luv em......

I'm joking now..... but if you'd like to send me a pic, (of you!) i'll see how understanding i can be.....

Seriously though, if you have been mis-sold the car, then you should at least see what the seller has to say..... was it a private purchase or a dealer...??

Ron.

Scroll down a bit to check the model code against VIN plate.

Its a WRX without doubt not an Sti, 7500 rpm limit (red line) plusthe engine bay shots give it away so if it was sold as an STi then trade descriptions !!!

The engine is STILL mapped for japan fuel and is no less susceptable to problems than the Sti. Looks like its been played with as will having an aftermarket dump valve (jerky car ?) and an induction lit ?

Not surprised to see a 'New Girl' thread gets 3 pages of posts in just a few hours..... behave yourselves guys!

Hi and welcome Wendy - looks like you will be popular here

Sorry to see your car isn't what you thought it was

*Edit - just looked at wendys scooby site - quote 'ive known and followed this car dong over 150mph and leaving a yamaha r1 standing'

I'm impressed - hell of a car to leave a bike (and one of the better bikes at that) standing!!!

Nice car and welcome to the site, just a bit of info. There are 2 just the same as yours where i live... but the WRX's of this year have the same power as an sti anyway.

Rob - they dont have the same power / torque as an STi.

Bed Hog - there is now way on this planet earth that a mildly tweaked WRX will keep up with an R1 - so you can sleep easy

An R1 will do 0-100 in 5.62 seconds possibly in 2nd, where a WRX will have just about hit 60. Its an impossibility.

Welcome Wendy.

Be good to see you at some up and coming meets Next one is 'on tour' to Salisbury in a couple of weeks time.

I have to agree with the chaps here about your car. I can't see how its pushing out 360bhp with that weeny intercooler in place.

To satisfy your curiosity, you could go to Tritons open day in a few weeks time as they are having their 4WD dyno installed. You could put the car on the rollers and get an accuarate figure.

Oh, and if you want to 'chat' with some more local Scooby owners, then most of us can be found here (www.hampshiresubaru.co.uk)

Hi Wendy. Please take no notice of the pi$$ takers, there are lots of good people on here too.

Sorry to say it does indeed look like your car is a WRX, rather than a WRX STI. It still looks like a nice clean car though so if you didn't pay STI prices then it's not the end of the world, it'll still be lots of fun.

If you can take a photo of the metal plate fitted under the bonnet, on the passenger side suspension tower. We can use the applied model code, engine code, transmission code, and paint code stamped there to determine exactly what model of car/engine/transmission you have. Then if you have been mis-sold, you will at least have some ammunition to go back to the seller.

If you know what the numbers mean, you could also look them up yourelf on the tables on this site. Not meaning to patronise you or anything, just can sometimes be a bit confusing when you're on your first Subaru as there are so many varients.

Use applied model code to find what version of car it is.
http://www.catherineandken.co.uk/sti/wrx.html

Use engine code to determine the exact engine version.
http://www.catherineandken.co.uk/sti/engine.html

Use transmission code to determine what the transmission is (what type of diffs are fitted etc.)
http://www.catherineandken.co.uk/sti/trans.html

Use paint code to find out what colour the car is, or was when it was built (if it's been changed).
http://www.catherineandken.co.uk/sti/paint.html
