Thanks I've taken the numbers down and been on a website. My chassis number is GF-GC8. GC8 F 48D. it comes up as mine being an Version V 1998 WRX STi. Is Says There V in V-limited was dropped. There were 1000 WRX typre RA STi version 5 limited cars and the WRX type R STI version 5 Limited cars had a 4 month waiting period for each order.
I think that this clears the matter up.
this can be found on website en. wikipedia.org/wiki/Subaru_Impreza_WRX_STi.

Again, that is the 'engine type' alongside the WRX 'applied model code'.
Unfortunately there is nothing in this thread / pics to suggest you have an Sti. I'm sure it was a genuine mistake (brought about because of the incorrect documentation) ... but i'd take it up with the seller.

Still a nice looking car mate, and with 280bhp is not exactly slow. Hopefully he'll compensate you somehow when presented with the facts. Looking on the bright side, it's better specced and more powerful than the UK equivalent of the same year (MY99 Turbo 2000 AWD).
Hope you get it sorted.

I did say it wasnt an STi about 30 posts ago!
Wendy - let us know how you get on with shopping this chap. And dont get so shirty next time
what I found odd was your post about "I dont know anything cos im a woman" but then revealed you'd been told its a Type R...
I wouldnt feel too stupid - there is a myriad of different models out there. Ive dealt a LOT with the version 4 and 5 type R and the equivalent UK model so I do know the fine details on these cars.

Don't feel too bad, it's easy to make mistakes buying cars - especially when you're dealing with Impreza's as there are so many versions/variables.
I consider myself as reasonably in the know, yet still made the mistake of not properly checking out a P1 I bought from a main dealer in 2004. It cost £18000 and despite being sold as a 100% straight car with no history, it turned out to have had a serious front end smash and damage to most panels. The garage were fully aware of it (they had repaired the damage off the books) but lied about it when I asked, obviously being a big franchised dealership I trusted them. In the end it cost me £4000 when I sold it 4 months later, as I'm honest enough to not pull the same stunt on the person I sold it to.
Looking back I probably should have sued them, and reported them officially to IM. I had plenty of evidence, the sales manager admitted what he'd done and was fired. And I had another dealership fully inspect the car and write a report on it to use as evidence. The owner of the offending dealership offered to put the damage right, and took it for 5 weeks during which they resprayed the front bumper again and didn't replace the damaged front metalwork or radiators. It looked ok from the outside but was still a shed underneath, I never would have wanted to drive it after that. I just wanted to be rid of the car so I took it as a lesson learned and sold it back to the dealer at a £4k loss.
I can't name the dealership (
) here due to Scoobnets fear of upsetting anyone, but the car was P1 624/1000.

It is a MY99 and will be 280ps. 240 bhp was the early 94-95 WRX IIRC. They hiked the power up to 260 then 280.
