Namibia was OK, but the travelling is a pain in the ****.

Spent some time in Cape Town on the way down - quite nice around the Waterfront complex and drove up to the foot of Table Mountain. Did not have time to go up in the cable car to the top, where apparantly the views are spectactular. Next time I hope.

Came the closest to a large crash and definately death to other road users. I hired a little Nissan Micra to get me about, which handled like a little go-cart. I was heading into CapeTown (got lost a few times) on the motorway, but unlike ours it can be quite twisty.

Anyway, decided to overtake a middle lane hogger (this was on an uphill right hand bend) and as I passed him I saw 3 people standing in my lane with their car in the barrier (or broken down). I was doing about 100k (60mph) and decided to just swing the car into the middle lane - I had no idea where the middle lane guy was but I guess I had got passed him as we did not touch. Better to take out a guy in the car than the 3 people standing in the road was the theory. I hope they do not bill me for the cleaning of the drivers seat.

Went to Cape Town myself last year and did go up Table Mountain. Views are superb and when cloud hits the mountain it just shoots straight up in front of you.
Our escort from the Airport was calling all the Blacks living in the shanty towns due to they are only there due to ANC promised them houses oif they move into the area so they get more votes. He was also saying that they rob tourists on the airport road during heavy traffic.
Anyway Me and Pie Head are ok for trip

Better a Micra than something worth nicking?

I have to say that you do not realise how safe the UK is until you visit these countries. All the houses have high walls around them and electric fencing at the top of the wall and armed security on 24hr call and also wandering around the estates.

Also, every car I was given a lift in had the auto-door-lock feature turned on.

I asked about security and everyone said it was neccessary. There were regular reports on the news of car-jackings in the (small) city I was staying in.

I remember seeing the reports on under car flame throwing kits that aimed flames up from the doors and just toasted any would be hi-jacker. Apparently legal to own but illegal to use!!

But back to the Nurburgring though.

What are your times on GT4? And in what car? I was always crap on it.

They are the two things I used to learn the circuit - but note that neither prepares you for the track itself. The same with any track really, but the undulations on the ring are quite breathtaking in places.

I have that video on my PSP now, so will be bringing that with me.

I got John Felsteads excellent dvd of the ring yesterday, and watched a little bit of it today Which led me to have a go of the ring
My fave setup at the mo' is:
arcade mode
spec c
road tyres
2 lap race
towards the end of the 1st lap, as you go under the gantry of the long straight, start a real clock. When you get to the end of the 2nd lap, and go under the gantry at the beginning of the same straight, stop it.
8:10 tonight

Nice one!!

Sounds like his gearbox is ill to me, although it could be a straight cut gearbox.

Drove like a tit though going mad at the taxi passing them!!he nearly went off on one corner because he was too close!!

Why did the not just back off then go again

Dont think so.
I wont be chasing times, doing that is when you push to far and have to get a lift home without a car.

None of the laps are timed andy. Your not allowed to time laps.
The official way of timing is from the first bridge as you leave the barriers, then stop the clock as you go under the gantry after the last corner onto the main straight. I'll show you on the ps2 next weekend at pete's bbq

Ash on way round with PS2 game to teach me.

Most probably best to let him drive The Ring, seeing how he will know it better than me.

Some cheap ferries to Dunkirk and Chunnel is £98.

His mum says not shut up since told can go.

Last year I used my GPS to record each lap as it happened. From there I can download it onto my laptop and playback each lap.

I waited till I got home to play them back rather than seeing the times on the day. It is not 100% accurate, but useful to see how you did.

Also good to see how difference between early laps and the ones after you have got used to the track.

Happy for anyone to borrow the GPS when we are there.
