As said before it only spoils it for the normal supporters as these neanderthals don't care whether they see a game or not. You've got your opinion which is fair enough as I have mine.

3500 passports taken off "football supporters" out of say 100,000 proper travelling fans, thats like saying the police took the licences of 3.5% of Subaru drivers for speeding and wreckless driving. Your point is very minor.

In addition, over the past few weeks in Germany, there have been some 4,000 arrests made of all fans from all countries. When that statistic was made, 257 had been English. That is a pretty fair and decent proportion given the vast numbers of English fans there...
Unfortunately, people who quote cricket matches as comparable neglect to see the difference of a one day match versus 90 minutes of passion. The nature of the games are so different, comparisons are meaningless and irrelevant. Plus, for some reason, football creates more passion than most other sports. I do not know why, but it is.... I love the game. I was at Euro 2004, and Japan 2000 and saw not a hint of trouble. But naturally, 10,000 English fans drinking and then a few thousand German fans celebrating a win will always cause some trouble. Not agreeing with it - just saying it will happen.

I counted about 6 inside the Fan Arena and a handfull more outside.
I did not see any trouble, I spoke to a bloke whose brother was one of the 400 arrested the night before but released b4 the game, he said the majority were pre-emptively arrested or just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time.
Not all football supportes are chav scum hooligans, there were 60,000 very happy English people partying yesterday in the centre of Stuttgart, along with Germans, Dutch, Portuguese, Spanish etc etc etc. I am not a football fan per se but just to be here for the world cup is an experience I will never forget.

Why so different? I can only think it's a diffence between the types of fans rather than a difference between the sports themselves.

Diablo, the fans of the 80's were in a different footballing culture that today, thanks for bringing up something that happened 20 years ago though. Really strengthens the argument.
Iwan, Have you seen the stands at the world cup this year (or any other year in fact) they're completely mixed with say English, Ecuadorian (if thats what they are) Germans, Italians etc etc... All sorts of people sat next to each other.

No doubt the culture has improved, but its still a long way from being "fixed"
The point remains that its the only sporting event on the global calander where trouble is the norm, and not the exception.

I've been to rugby matches though where the fans were mixed together, I wrongly assumed football was different.

Exactly, England we're only given 6000 tickets, probably about the same for the opposing team. All the others are sponsor tickets, mainly Germans but all them tickets have been sold here there and everywhere. Technically they should be segregated and if FIFA handed out fair amounts of tickets then they would be segregated, its their own fault but everyone who attends the game are there purely for that reason, the game, not to cause trouble.

the problem is that football is so vastly superior to all other sports that it attracts the greatest number of fans. if duller sports like rugby and cricket attracted nearly as many passionate supporters, there would be similar problems. but that will never happen of course

anyway, most people only play rugby because they aren't co-ordinated enough to play football, so the above cannot happen.
but you are right, rugby players tend to be bigger and stronger than footballers. dunno what this proves though

If it's so minor how would you feel about them all turning up the next game you go to and being near you in the stadium. 3,500 anti-social yobs being aggressive, obnoxious and whatever else they get up to. I can't believe you could possibly say 3,500 nutters is minor

3500 nutters is minor in the scale of it all just like 3500 drivers are nutters on the road, theyre a minority. WTF are you on? Just trying to bring the sport and its supporters down because you dont care about it yourself
