Are you jostling for the number 10) slot Randid? The liquid doesn't just 'sit there' it has been forcibly displaced (outwards and upwards) and in so trying to to return exerts a force on the body that displaces it.

Are you really so stupid as to have to get GCSE physics lessons from the forum troll?

If you don't believe me I'd normally direct you to someone with a username like EinsteinRetard's... only he has amply demonstrated that he, unlike his physicist namesake, is only capable of flinging random, unassociated devices into the discussion that have nothing to do with the physical principle about which we are discussing!

There was a poster in M&S a couple of years ago which featured Darcey Bussell.

It said," Darcey Bussell, Principle Ballerina" (sic)

Oh how we laughed

Given that the link is to a Canadian grade school why don't you take that up with them? It does show that Canadian school kids, despite their spelling, can understand a principle that you have demonstrated is beyond British Bed Salesmen however.

Well next time I am explaining the finer points of the pocket spring and foam/latex sprung mattresses I will ensure I drop this 'principle' into the conversation. Might be the clincher.

The "boat floating" thing was meant to be a joke.

Anyway, I've had three votes on this thread, whereas sociopath has none. And he's trying to be the meanest barstard on the planet.
