Did I watch the same WC as the rest of you ?

JT had an awful tournament. Too often beaten in the air and too many mistakes for my liking. I can't stand RF and he hasn't got the qualities needed to be a Captain (not that this stopped Becks) but he had a great tournament.

Gerrard would be a decent option and maybe with an ENGLISH, passionate manager we might get one of the best squads in the world on paper playing like one. Gerrard didn't have a great tourney but still scored vital goals and in a 4-4-2 with Hargreaves or Carrick holding would have the freedom he enjoys at club level.

Hijack - I don't see why all the fuss about an English manager? Granted this one picks funny formations, but in case people's memories are short he didn't do any worse than the previous 4-5 English managers before him.

But the English managers before him were not paid £5m plus per year and didn't have the benefit of the outstanding crop of talent we had on display.

Did not see too much of the outstanding talent being demonstrated though did we?

Beckham is a good footballer but he seemed to be unable to fire the others up to play at maximum effort as a proper team.

France and Brazil didnt really play too much fancy football, until they played each other France looked like they was out of their depth. Holland didnt do anything special either.

Englands problem is we usually play a European style of football, if we play the game like its played in the Premiersh!t then I think we'd do 10x better.

Were the teams throughout the 80s and 90s really so full of mediocre individuals?

Another irony - Sven lost on penalties making him utter crap, useless, a turnip. If he'd won on penalties he would have been the most successful England manager for, erm, quite some time?

Playing boring crap football and winning is just about acceptable - playing boring crap football and losing is not such a great Idea. I'd sooner watch a great attacking display and losing (Bobby Robson's boys in 1990) versus the pish Sven's been dishing up for the last 6 years .

what kind of tactic is:
"defend to the hilt, and rely on penalties"

i'd have sooner seen england lose 5-0 but at least attack the goal relentlessly!!!!

as per the first post... 10 more to step down and some new blood.

oh, and leave Joe Cole in the squad, he played his socks off...

**** disclaimer: this is just my view, pls dont flame me...!!!****

Based on what? One poor tournament? What about his previous record both for Chelsea and for England? Who would you replace him with?

They say that Erickson is going to be paid £5 mill a year for the next two years for doing nothing as part of his contract!
