Accuracy of figures aside, it's good to see the shape of the plots as that's what really matters..

Yep sorry mate forgot you don't have a boost gauge, hope Bob positioned his gauge close to your line of vision..lol.!

apparently "curling your toes" helps when trying to hold boost pressure.

It was wedged in the corner of the passenger side of the front window!

Apparently the trick was to increase the pedal pressure slowly and not let the excitment get the better of you (easier said than done) but I found ust using the sole of my foot easier TBH. I was much too clumsy at first and gave it too much welly, then overcompensated and didnt give it nearly enough. Finally on the third attempt I started to get the hang of it.....well I think just about good enough for Bob to do his stuff anyway!

The shape of the plot is indeed more important than headline figures. I recall a story on here of someone who was quite embarassed at beating another Scooby on the RR in terms of headline figures only to see that same Scooby drive away from then in a straight line cause of a much fatter torque curve, IIRC.

I prefer not to get into the "my car's got more bhp than yours lark". That's not to say that I'm not delighted that my car produced what appear to be very good figures, cause I am, but I'm more delighted that it drives so well.

I'm not about to become a 'figure snob!'

Now that you've had this upgrade a few months, any chance of an update?

I'm getting all this done next Thursday at API.

Of course:

I'll be more comprehensive later, but for now let me tell you what a mate said after I showed him what it was like through the gears.

"F**kme; it goes like s**t off a shovel! That was superb!"

Think he liked it!.

It's an important decision; getting a good result depends on getting the work done by people who know what they're doing, and not getting done over financially depends upon getting people who have integrity and won't suggest you do things to the car that aren't necessary. I don't think you'll find a more up-front straight talker than David at APi and the mechanics there know Scoobies very well. Bob is a bit of a legend on here and with good reason; his mapping is A1, he's also a nice guy and is very happy to help you out and offer advice and aftercare if you have concerns.

Can't say enough good things about both of them!

Several people have had the equivalent of the upgrade I described since at APi and then a map by Bob and all of them have got excellent results!!!

This is not a coincidence!!

Got mine done yesterday and I must say it's money well spent. Up 'til just after 3k revs it's much the same car, just after 3k you can hear the turbo much more then feel the car whoosh off, the pick up is amazing!

The normal characteristics before boost cuts in means pottering around town etc is still an easy affair.

Thanks guys and good to have a long chat with fellow customer (Andy?)

Can't remember mate, is yours the VF34 conversion? If so, you might find that it's quieter, the VF35 is noisy little bugger (which I like) cause of the p15 exhaust housing (If memory serves) The VF 34 has a larger housing and that might be why it's quieter?

Sorry, i threw you out there with my cryptic sarcasm! lol.
It was a silly hint at not having my turbo spin up at 3k revs never mind hearing it!
And yes you are right, i do have the VF34 conversion.

Remind me, did you go for the ported headers mate IIRC you had them ceramic coated, but I don't recall if they were ported or not.

It may not feel like it cause of the more pronounced way the turbo chimes in when it really blows, but the car will be stronger than a std car at its peak by 3k rpm. Take a look at my graph. Drive it at 3k and you'd say that it hadn't even got going yet, though!

We're spolit with torque!!!

HAha, yeah very true, spoilt for torque i like it. And again i reckon you will be right about actual torque at 3k revs compared to before with mapped TD04.

I have different headers that were ceramic coated yes. They are a replica GT Spec 2 header, i say replica as Tracktive have them made for them.
I didn't go ported OEM purely because i only have one car, and there is no way i can go without a car for as long as it would take to sort it all out really. By the time i had paid for a hire car, etc, etc.
Mind you, for what i spent on headers and ceramic coating, but anyway thats another story!

Ah, I see, it was ok for moi as API could just port mine whilst the rest of the work was being completed. If I understand it correctly, using aftermarket headers mean that you might loose out on a bit of response and low down spool in exchange for a bit more top end, combined with the VF34 which spools a bit later than the VF 35. So you may loose out a bit lower down, but will have a stronger top end.

Tbh, i can only give my little opinion on the headers, but you do have to be careful what you buy as some even rob you of torque big time. As per recent article in magazine about 'Project Phoenix' for those that read Jap Performance.
But my headers actually increase torque and are proven purely by testing, pretty much like most tuners do.
I dont think they affect low down spool, i seem to think (only mho) that is down to the VF34's threshold tbh.
But again, i aint no expert and am only summising here.
