Personally, its about taking precautions. I'd prefer to take further security measures than tell everyone to leave their keys near the door. If everyone started leaving the keys near the door, don't you think thieves will steal even more performance vehicles knowing how easy it is?

Spend a few pounds on extra door locks and buy a better front door which can withstand some force. Also maybe buy an alarm which can be set downstairs whilst asleep upstairs.

Next time you think of buying more mods for your car, use that extra cash for your home first!

As far as I'm aware only one has been stolen and is still outstanding and the other was a failed attempt.
Best place to put the car is out of sight and in a garage when not in use, use the garage for what it was intended for and not storing junk.
a friend of a friend from brotton had his 04 scooby taken the other day. they broke into his house and took the keys

Yep very common, and lately there has been a trend of targetting houses specifically with large high value 4x4's because they can fill the car with stuff from the house too..

Personally I keep my keys hidden, most are opportuninsts and will just break the door lock, have a quick look around by the front door and then sod off..

All of this talk about dont hide your keys because they'll get you and "beat you for your keys" is stupid, if someone has violent tendancies they will probably beat you regardless because thats what floats their boat!

Its also common at the moment for theives to come equipt with a key transponder and coded ECU from a scrapped car, they just have to plug the ECU in, break the barrel and wave the transponder near the barrel then off they go..

Why not hope for something radical to happen.....
Maybe and its only a maybe, the police instead of sending out letters warning of such gangs in our various areas, actually go out and arrest them.
Crazy i know but it might just happen, perhaps even in my lifetime.

Are these thefts occuring with cars left on driveways or streets ?
Mine is always garaged so figured thats about as safe as i can get.

No one can hear them or see them disabling your car security in a garage, so its probably worse.

On the plus side, if they are opportunist thieves they wont even know the car is in there as its not sat on the drive.
Garage is alarmed into the house system so a few in the close might be woken.

1.) Find a socket near to the back door, chisel a gouge of plaster out in an upwards direction from the socket to about head height (enough of a channel) to put some single core cable in.

2) Ensuring that the socket and and relevent eletrical sources are turned off, wire the single core cable up to the positive side of the socket. place the cable in the gouge and fill using water based house hold filler. paint to colour

3) using a suitable drill and ensuring you ahere to the relevent health safety guidlines issued with your tools, fix and screw a key rack to the wall at the top of the gouge, then drill a hole through the rack for the single core wire to come through. and attach to one of the hooks.

4) Put the car keys on this hook at bedtime, then switch on the socket.. Ensure you always turn the socket to the off position before you or any loved one attempts to get the keys.

For best results get a set of duplicate keys cut all in metal and use these on the key rack.

If Carlsberg did theft protection it would be the best in the world

I'm all for the above I would prefer that they know people will defend themselves. I for one will and yes I have swords (I hope they remain for decorative purposes) we are due to get a dog soon (maybe I need to look into the american pitbull like my cousin has) and I can handle myself see the gym I own with my family (I'm not named on the site) www.fwc.uk.com lets put it this way if we get to know who the person is the law will be taken into our hands (via whatever very reasonable means) come to us we come to you. It's alright saying leaves keys by door but there are many things wrong with that. Thieves normally come back where it was easy. So next time when you don't have a car what next!! Theives are well aware that you will get another car so what's to stop them coming back for more and just going upstairs anyhow!!! I would like to hear more about good protection measures I have a garage but also the alarm, immobiliser, tracker, Steering wheel lock and a pole built into my drive that you cant reverse back from. If that isn't telling a thieve please don't come here I mean business then if they attempt to break in (I have dead locks, porch, etc and soon wireless camera's) then I hope the courts are sympathetic with my case....

If people try to break in I will use 'reasonable' force to protect my family. Thats what I'm saying (read the messgae) and I say it again. If someone comes in I will defend myself and family in a very reasonable way . What give em the keys and then wait for them to come back in 8 weeks. Read the stats your very likely to be broke into again once it's already happened leaving the keys in full view is like putting oil on a fire. Doesn't your insurance say don't leave valuables in the backseat (there's a reason for that don't you think). We seem to be rolling over and saying thieves come steal what you want. Then all our insurances go up and because it's more easy organised crime can grow bigger and bigger. What next leave the remote control of your TV and other stuff in full view so they won't disturb you for that. Erm while we're at it lets just leave the jewellery in view and tell all our kids to leave their branded trainers and stuff by the door next to the milkman's request

we should be allowed to use what ever force we deem nessesary to defend and protect ourselves and families if broken into if the law cannot do it who will

All you 'tough' guy's would ****e your pants and cry for your mummy if you were woken up in the night by someone standing over your bed..!

FFS get real..!

By all means, if you have time and hear them coming in then fair enough, you 'may' have time to react, hence the importance of a good alarm (and using it at night, I know so many people who don't ) also good locks/bolts on your doors.

As has been said take reasonable precautions, stop spouting BS and just accept you'll react the way you react at the time given the circumstances and above all stop worrying and enjoy your car..!

PS a guy around the corner from me had two guy's try kicking his door in at ~7pm demanding the keys to his scoob. He told them to **** off and as they couldn't do the door they left after leaving several holes in the cars roof and bonnet from the jemmie they had..! Sad to say he sold the scoob and bought a new...................EVO..! Good man in not letting the w@ankers prevent him having what he wants..!

Where have i said i dont sleep?
I am on my second scoob and have not let the fear of a **** pinching it put me off!

They might not need to come round a third time if they did a good enough job the second time f'wit.
I suppose you are rock hard and can take on the world rocky!
I am a big lad more than capable of taking care of myself but being woken up in the night with a **** waving a knife at me is a different story.
You telling me a car is worth getting knifed for, mind you you sound pretty thick so we will have to think about that one.

you all say thies people are thick as pig **** they arnt what they are doing is well planned organised crime and thies car thefts are huge in liverpool at the moment most of the time they are just used as a getaway car and what is better than a scooby evo or a s3 ect they no what they want and you cant stop them taking it they used my mates evo to rob a betting shop

the only reason why they never got mine is because my dog growled and woke me up before the house alarm even whent of so i had time to look on my cctv and see them outside and just as i woke my dad the front door whent through and thier they were in my house with ballies on at the bottom of my stairs its the scariest thing i have ever seen in my life just so happens that they had no wepons and i did so they ran

if it happened again and i never woke up i would not hesitate to give them over

thier is no need to be a hero but i belive you should protect what is yours if you can just dont get killed for it coz then you still cant enjoy the car

They can have mine, it has a problem starting and I doubt they will get it going.
I agree with most on this, if they come in for the keys....hand em over, it aint worth the potential injuries or heartache for the family.

When i said they are as thick as pig **** i was refering to their mentality towards inflicting pain and distress on decent law abiding people.
I agree with you to a certain point but when you are married with two young children there is only so much you can take in your home.
I wouldn't want a rematch which is always the danger if you give them a pasting, who knows what they would do. As you point out these are organised criminals who probably take no prisoners.

Touch wood it never happens to me but then again i don't even think about it till i read a post on here.

WARNING TO ALL YOU THEIFIN TRAMPS OUT THERE IF YOU *** ROUND MY HOUSE YOUR IN FOR A GOOD FIGHT YOU WONT BE LEAVIN WITH THE CAR EVEN IF YOU DO HAVE THE KEYS . GET A JOB AND BUY YOUR OWN FUC***IN TRAMPS! TO THINK I PAY ME TAXIES FOR YOUR DOWL MONEY ! now i have that of me chest security is the way forward guys hidden switchs and stuff i am allways thinkin of new measures all the time . keep em under your pillow i do .

This happened to me two years ago (they stole my JDM STI 5). I went out and bought a 2004 UK STI PPP afterwards and they haven't been back - even though they didn't have much trouble finding the keys.

My advice would be to get a professionally fitted burglar alarm (with a panic button by your bed) and arm it every night, without fail. At best it will be a deterent and at worst you will at least be get some warning before they come after you for the keys.

I bet your face would be a picture as you lie there in bed with two meat heads holding a baseball bat to your head.
What a hero you are!
They will only realise when the courts dish out proper sentences.
Someone putting up a fight aint going to stop them, if you think it will you are daft.
Hope you are prepared to knife someone, cos these idiots are.

The law in this country is f***ing crap to say the least and criminals get away with minimum sentances. Same thing happened to a good mate of mine last year when 3 guys kicked his front door in. At knife point they demanded the keys to his EVO 7. I personally seeing a knife would have given them over, but being a 6ft 6inch 17stone Thai Boxer...he proceeded to literally kick ten bells of ****e out of all three. In fact he didnt even let them escape and placed himself between the thieves and the front door. Naturally the police arrested him also and he was done for causing gbh with the intent to cause seriouse harm. The three guys all of which were hospitalised for serious injuries one of which now has permanent brain damage and eats his food through a straw pressed charges and my mate got 3years & £5000 fine. His injuries consisted of two stab wounds to his mid-section and the criminals got....wait for it....3years.

whats that all about?

Something he said to me before his sentance "I bet them *******s wernt expecting that!"

This is for you Raz, respect and cant wait till ya out!

Peace all.
