My main point was that just because other cars have caught up does not meen a subaru is crap as they are the same price as these hot hatches yet still match or outperform them so they are still good cars.
BUT I never said the scoobs are rubbish as i'm currently own a scoob. (Had 4 of them). I have driven a vxr at the time I had a WRXPPP and i didn't notice any difference between the two in gear. Yes the VXR was poor off the line due to it wheelspinning everywhere. I just think hot hatches have caught up with the scoobs compared to 10 or so years ago when scoobs were running 200+bhp standard compared to hot hatches running 100+ bhp?

But truth where its due - after 60, or to be more accurate, after third gear the engine does start to fade . . .So how long do you think till i start craving more BHP????

Once again misguided . . . . .Agreed, the 265 is not the be all and end all, . .However, it still makes for a competent ride....But hot hatches are the way backward from a Scooby . .Not the way forward . .There's just something very adolescent about them . . . . .
Its been nice talking . . .Peanut!

Hot hatches moved on a very long way from a few years ago. As said 200 bhp seems to be the norm now as opposed to 120/130bhp. Scoobys were already doing 280bhp and sub 5 secound 0-60s back then. Realistically how much further can you move on from that. You are into supercar territory from then on.
I have a lightly modified STI V5 Type R and have had the privilege of driving many 400-500 BHP supercars and hand on heart the difference in performance is barely noticeable.

Why has anyone brought "Hot-Hatches" into the thread ? Never had a car that handles like my scoob, purely because of the 4wd not only off the line but being actually able to put your footdown mid corner. Try that in a 200BHP fwd!!!!. As for the evolution of the scoob, WRX JDM imports kick out about 240BHP which for a 13-14 yr old car is amazing when hot hatches were 150BHP. Subaru have failed to move with the times, if hot hatches are touching 200BHP+ then you'd expect your scooby to be base model 300BHP+ as standard, keeping equidistant from the burberry baseball cap's as they were in previous years.
As i said previously Bug-eyes are ugly, and when you consider cars like the VXR aren't far off (may even be quicker) than a WRX.
Subaru need to go back to the drawing board and come up with a base model 300BHP thats pleasing on the eye to keep old loyal customers as well as attract the next generation after they've got bored fitting strobes to their VXR's.
