Anyone got any thoughts/advice on an old VTEC with low miles?
I'm going ot look at the white one today, they've given it a full inspection, but my worry is lots of small trips with cold engine = lots of ware. Salesman (not suprisingly) says, Honda's are bullet proof.

I had a Civic 1.8vti as a company car for 3 years and 120,000miles. I absolutely thrashed it within an inch of it's life every single day and it never went wrong - not even a bulb blew.
Initially they seem like an average annoying understeery FWD car - but push them hard and there's a reasonable chassis there.
A good choice for a 'different' car

I must admit that the handling of my 1.8VTi-S for a fwd car was amazing. Always made sure it had Bridgestone Potenza tyres on it which helped. Had it on a few track days at Donington and with a good run out of coppice got it up to 130mph on the back straight before the chicane on to the start finish straight. Once on a real hot lap on the way in to mcleans corner had a classic scoob pull over and wave me past. After that session the brakes were smoking and had small stones sticking to the tyes they were that hot.
So really, these cars do handle well but also are very predictable at the limit.

It's very rapid, and given a few people a shock in second and third gear, it's doing over 100 in third by the time you change gear at the end of the vtec. FUN! Tyres are all knackered, so it's not handling that well at the moment. Working out the best tyre choice, then we're in business.

not that it matters ,no offence intended.

RE: Tyres, somenoe has offered me a pair of 15" JDM ITR White alloys with a set of nearly new Goodyear Eagle F1, which are apparently pretty good ont he EB6, it's going to cost me well over £200 for a set of Bridgestone re010 or RE0720, so I am quite tempted to do that for now.
I wasn't going to modify it, but now I'm starting to wanna lower it, change the zorst and get a remap to lower the vtec.. LOL

I was going to put a sports exhaust on but could find a stockist. As for the tyre, give the Eagles a go and if you don't like them you can always change them when needed. Just a word of warning, you won't get much more than 10K miles out of a set of front tyres if your lucky. The VTi Civics eat front tyres and also get the tracking checked regularly.

Loved my old K reg 1.6 3Dr VTi. (158bhp)
Vtec is a bit marmite - and I loved it.
The engine note as it hit the vtec never ever failed to raise a smile. I think over time the Vtec has been made less obvious...which is a shame IMHO.

To bring this thread to a conclusion.
Many thanks to all who gave feedback, I've had my lil car for a week now, and since fitted some lightweight JDM ITR wheels (in white naturally), with Mitchy Eagle F1's, and I must say it's a new car. F1's are very grippy, but also allow the car to drift a little on lift off. It's defo got too much susp travel, and it's quite 'floaty', that said, it hangs on tight and nicely adjustable, but probably not as focused as other marques of the same time period in terms of handling. Not had a good chance to hair through some bent and twisty much, but what I have seen so far is impressive, and it's certinly no slow-coach, I've kept up with some quick cars on the M25 and M4 over the past week. I read regularly that lowering it even with just lowering sprints by 35mm odd with standard shocks improves handling alot.
I got this one for £3.5k with a years warranty, list price of £5.5k. One old foggy previous owner, who had it serviced by franchised dealer every year, and only covered 20k miles since new (1998). Car was spotless, been serviced regularly but no cam-belt changed, I negotiated with the dealer to change the cambelt for me for free, and give it a service. Service manager there said he highly doubts i'll have any problems with it for at least the next 70k miles, provided it gets regular servicing / oil changes.
If anyone is looking for a cheap alternative to a scoob with seats for four and a boot, defo consider one of these. I'm off for a blat in the sun, see ya!
