I just didnt have the heart to tell my son that it was only a worm, it wouldnt have been so much fun for him to go to his classmates at school and say " oh i saw a worm in my back garden" just dosent have the same cool ring to it.

the bit about me living abroad was true and yes i do know the difference between the two, it was just he looked so amazed at it...cant get anything past you lot
Riiiiight.

a/ It's not a worm either, it's a lizard, as I said in my first reply
b/ How does living abroad make you better at identifying British species?
c/ Go and tell your son the truth, that Dad made a mistake and that it was a limbless lizard called a Slow Worm (Anguis fragilis) before your son grows up thinking its a snake and makes a twit of himself on an internet forum like his dad!

Got a number of Adders in my garden.

Live in little holes in the flower beds.

I leave well alone.

wasnt going to reply, but since you are such a jumped up pompous ****, i couldn't resist
a) whether it is a worm or a lizard dosent matter, i didnt realise that we had david attenborough on the fecking boards
b) they are not a british species, they are widespread over europe, north america and central asia (where i came across them). where we lived, we had rough grass behind our house and it was full of them, so yes i have encountered them loads of times and know the difference. Here in the UK, i have gone collecting slow worms as well, so are aware of their form.
c) I posted it up as that, because posting "there is a slow worm in my garden " wouldnt have the same ring to it and it was only a bit of fun
Certainly a post about a slow worm wouldnt have generated 2 pages so thx for perpetuating the untruth

Oh and i think passing down the ability to make oneself look like a twit on an internet forum to my son, is a great legacy

Relax, Slow Worms and Grass Snakes are completely harmless. The only venomous snake in the UK is the Adder and it is shy and reclusive. It woud only ever bite if you "mucked" with it (to coin a Steve Irwin expression). Even if you were bitten, it would be most unlikely to do a healthy adult any serious long term harm- it's more dangerous for people with weak hearts, children, the elderly etc...

Most fear of Snakes is based on ignorance; they get a bum rap and they simply don't deserve it! I've got a good picture of me and a 17 foot Burmese Python somewhere....

Possibly Not quite what I meant when I said I wanted Animalistic attraction to the opposite sex though!

He was heavy (as you can imagine) but very docile and gentle.

Even a Python, with its ability to articulate its upper and lower jaws, couldn't get its mouth that wide open!!

Neat trick though.....I wonder if I can teach the GF to do it!!!

They say that one can overcome the fear by facing it.
It also reminds me of the episode when Steve Irwin was acting too smart with a cobra and got bitten! His face was a picture! Poor soul had to go through "pumping out" procedure and hospital addmission etc.

i looked after 2 18 foot Burmese pythons a couple of years ago... spectacular creatures... wish i could have offered them a permanent home but i simply didn't have the space...

snakes are amazing creatures that have unfairly been given a bad reputation...

can't wait til i can keep them again
