when you sign for something always always sign it unchecked, ive just start my own courier company,and i always get them to sign unchecked if they dont open it first, then if its broken you will have some come back, even off the post man i sign unchecked for a letter

On these new machines that they use. Writing unchecked means nowt. All the courier company are after is your signature. Its up to the receiver to inform the sender of any damage and the sender can then investigate it.

If there is obvious sighn of damage, the item can then be refused and the courier company will send it back to the sender.

Adding 'unchecked' sounds fine, but if the glasses were broken I would still have had the hassle of sending them back. Checking them on the spot would have allowed the courier to take them back there and then if there was a problem.

I've now had an email from the consignor, who is basically being 'politely arsey' with me, also saying I should have added 'unchecked', amongst other things. I'm glad that they have seen fit to offer me advice on what I should and shouldn't do when receiving a parcel, I've a good mind to tell them where to shove their glasses!

Incidentally, a question for the couriers who have been kind enough to offer advice - why does the delivery run sheet say 'The liability of all Fastway franchisees will end when a signature has been obtained upon delivery of the goods' and 'Any damage or loss must be shown when goods are signed for' and 'Received in good order and condition'?

Surely if I can just put 'unchecked' on the sheet, it might as well just say 'checked/unchecked, delete as appropriate'

at the end of the day, sending any glass thru courier is risky. Especially going tru the bi hubs theyve got now. Parceline/interlink have got 2 massie depots in birmingham and things tend to get thrown about abit. Especially in transit. Its just one of those things im afraid.

Ive had postmen & couriers leaving parcels on the bonnet of my scoob before now, in full view, no signature recieved etc etc

what I have done in the past is left it a few days then complained that I have never recieved goods, and get them sent again

If the postmen/couriers cant be bothered to get a signature and leave stuff on my car, on the bin, in front of my front door, then I will claim the items never delivered, and get them sent again

I ordered an item on Friday and paid extra money for it to be delivered on Saturday.

Waited in all day..... no package.

When i spoke to them today they first said they never deliver on Saturdays, then when i pointed out their internet track and trace stated on my delivery 'Saturday delivery' they transfered me through to someone else.

5 people later they agreed it should have been delivered Saturday, and will be delivered today. No apology, and no refund of the extra £15 (£25 in total) i paid for Saturday delivery.

Absolute joke.

Lets see if it actually turns up today!!!

if you write it next to where you sign it will come up on the pc as unchecked its just to cover your back side

as for sending them back open it before signing if its broken refuse delivery

its the hubs that do the damage, you want to see the pallet hubs,ill never send anything through them

this is why iam doing sameday or nextday once its on my van it doesnt come off till i get to the customer

yeah, but the courier conpany is not interested weather its cheaked or not. There only intrested in the recept of the package and the pick up.
Yes they do take into account damages but its up to the recepiant and the sender to worry bout the damages.

This is why most courier companys now insist on a signature. Unless you have left a note saying otherwise and the driver can take away the note as proof, you wont get your package.

I can only go by the rules tha company i used to work for apply.

I always sign these things "D.Duck". They never check but it gives me the opportunity of saying I didn't sign for it (accepted, I did actrually sign for it but not in my name and therefore they have no easy way of proving I did sign for it).

I had one this morning, Parcel Force of all people. he walks in with this heavy box and just drops it from waist height onto the floor and says can you sign for this mate, whats your last name (wanted to type it into the electronic machine tey have now) so whilst hes typing my name into it I rip the delivery note off the box to see whats in it. A PC. so I says "hang about I want to check it first before I sign for owt, its a PC inside". he says "Ohh your kidding, its not packed very well is it" lol I turned around and says "doesnt matter how its packed mate Id expect it to be damaged if its being chucked about like that seeing as Ive just watched you drop it". The cheek of him, he bl00dy huffed at me lol... It had no visable damage so I just signed for it, someone is going to test it this afternoon and check its working OK though.
