Is the rod is too powerful it won't be much good for other things. You may find you need to have a couple of rods.

If a rod is too stiff and powerful it can easily break your line or pull hooks our of fish or even make casting difficult.

Mackerel feathers?

I thought mackerel were Pisces, not Aves.

only been sea fishing a couple of times a VERY long time ago so not too sure.
your gonna need some weights otherwise the feathers will just float.

thought you only used that stuff off a boat. just drop them over the side with a weight attatched and jiggle away.
also they are all attached to 40lb+ line and you only have 15 on the reel, meaning should you snag for any reason, instead of just losing the feathers you could snap anywhere on the reel line losing any weights attached.

on the sea fishing front it's probably best asking your mate for a bit of advice on the sort of end tackle you'd require.or get yourself down the local tackle shop and ask some questions. most of the time they will be very helpful.
