I once came up against an M5 and from a starting point of 90mph i gave up after 3 seconds as the M5 was long gone, its relentless.

Make no doubt about it the new M5 has epic performance, SL55, 911tt, ferrari 550's are all gobbled up above 100mph
I'd be interested to see the figures that suggest it would gobble up those cars. Not the Fezza though as everybody knows they are not really that fast.

Well it's quicker past the ton then my 996TT, I don't need the figures to tell me what I feel

It's big, it's heavy, it's ugly, but fu*k me it's quick

Talk of "gobbling up" other cars above 100mph is largely irrelevant outside of the pub and macho Evo magazine articles. Even in Germany (which is the only place you can indulge in serious foot to the floor antics above 100mph without fear of being banned, put in jail or having your car confiscated) traffic, restricted sections of road and poor road surfaces often get in the way of such activities.

I'm sure the E60 M5 is a superb car though. It's just a pity that to date they've not released a more family friendly estate version.

Indeed, 80% of my miles are in Germany. There is still enough road to play, I wonder how much longer it will last...

Speaking from experience (of car life with a toddler, not the 996 or M5 ) I doubt any non estate car can cope with baby's first trip to Xmas at the grandparents.

RS6 Avant if I had a similar choice, or keep the car you love and chop in the 120 for an A6 avant / 5 series touring
