Silverstone was not quite like TOTB on sunday!

Outstanding effort in so many respects, and great performances by so many.

Time to reflect on a new manifold Andy and to find a new fabricator too.

Look forward to reading about an '8' soon!

To do those times on Toyo road tyres I think is amazing. What demon tyres did you choose in the end?

Graham.

What about welding it then a pressure test to what pressure it will fail at .Or go up a thickness in alu for your inlet manifold .Andy knows this already i think

Its partly the material (soft alluminium 3mm thick) and partly the welding. The soft material bends which in turn fatigues the weld which had inadequate penetration.
Davids hasty (I said hasty not nasty ) repair weld held up better than the original !

Graham - something not unlike your own on a lightweight car its amazing the G force it can pull now on corners

just been checking thro the team points situation with it being so close.
steven darley missed out on the 10th place point on 1/4m by just .01 of a sec to an evo. that point would have made it a tie! so close!

andy- well done yesterday mate, i thought you had the title in your grasp. Si Norris did an incredible job on the handling tho, 2nd overall takes some beating!

Chris, have you checked the extra points situation for competing in all three disciplines as Paul mentioned on 22b?

yes, and there is no confusion, we did not adpot that extra point, after discussion, as too many people were saying they would trundle around the handling cct just to get that point in. that would have made the queues worse, and achieved little, so was dropped.
we also went to the trouble of putting a section on points scoring and how it worked, incl the 5 points for scoring overall on all 3 events in the rules n regs sent out to every competitor. it probably stuck in peoples minds thats all, it was one of many tweaks and points suggestions made between us/reps etc.

Had a great day, even if the week leading up to it took 10 years off my life...........

Firstly thanks to,

Steven: For helping me build the engine, doing all the spanner work, driving, and doing the Lateral interviews

Emma: For letting him, and organising a great BBQ...........

David Wallis: For helping me, when he should have been helping himself ! and lending me his crank sensor, when I murdered my own.

Pat: For mapping, and keeping the engine intact

Steve (SMG): For rebuilding one of my heads Sunday night/ Monday morning, at 2 minutes notice.............

Kev /Scooby Clinic: For supplying some parts at very short notice...........

And everyone else who supported us.

We had a few setbacks, starting last Sunday evening, when we discovered a problem with a head, which meant the engine had to come back out, and needed sorting very quickly, so we could get it all back together, run in, and mapped.....

Well Steve sorted that out quicker than a quick thing, and Steven built the engine back up, and fitted it by Wednesday evening

Pat, & Steven then ran it in (the "brisk" way) on Thursday evening

Pat, & I then spent some time mapping on Friday, and Saturday, only to find that the turbo wasn't hitting full boost until about 5000rpm we tried to find the cause, and narrowed it down to either the turbo, or a cracked manifold.

Steven took it for a drive to see how badly it was spooling, but as it was still pretty quick once over 5000rpm, he was still optimistic, and no one felt like starting to change anything this late in time anyway.

Well, given how laggy the turbo was, I really can't complain at the 10.65 @ 138mph Steven achieved, and the 194.8mph over 1 mile, was just astonishing...........

Chris forgot to post our points, but I believe we were 5th in the top speed (6 points), 12th in the 1/4, and 10th overall

With regard to the 1 point for doing all 3 events, this was apparently dropped some time ago, and when I spoke to Chris earlier, the team results will stand.

Our team did brilliantly.

Andy's 9.51 (1st), & 171 terminal was awsome. 6th in the top speed (188.7) cruising It's a pity the manifold popped, otherwise ????

The RCMS car (White) just couldn't quite get it together for the drag, & top speed, but Olli did great on the handling (6th overall).

Mikee's could only run .9bar on the day, and still did an 11.18 When that cars sorted, it's going to fly......

Gulli picked up good points in the top speed (3rd) not certain exactly what speed it was though, and points in the drag too.

Paul also picked up points in the drag (4th ?), and also in the top speed (7th ?)

John's 10.99 was great, and I think he picked up points in the handling too.

Neil, & Joe also did reallly well, and I'm sure will be back next year, even quicker.

David made a valliant effort to get there, and run, but it just wasn't to be. That said, he kept at least two other cars competing.

The MLR are being (understandably) a little smug, but they had better get a few quicker cars for next year, because 30 of their 54 points came from Simon Norris's car, and without him, they're just another average team, driving another average car

Even if our biggest points winner (Andy) hadn't of got any points, we'd still have come second, and that just shows how strong the Subaru team really is !

No offence meant David! (hope you knew that)
Great Team effort and interesting 'statistics' from Mark above.

I will get the Smug bit at the next hillclimb from the EVO man....

Time for some aircraft spec allum alloy Andy, welded by David!

I wonder if next year's TOTB will clash with a hillclimb?

Graham.

well i don't no what to say the day started badly and ended up badly woke up at 5 ready to leave only to find i had a nail go through my back tyre and didn't fancy the 150mile journey on a space saver we had to travel in my mates 306hdi witch ain't a lot of fun but hope was restorded when we didn't get stuck in a que at the gates for 2 hours like last year, all the main cars were there except reylands cossie witch i hoped to see rcm was there with a full pit crew, what a set up they had saw andys first run but then missed his second while waiting to watch a green thing go round the track but after that it all seemed to go a bit pair shaped with scoobies dropping like flies i was so gutted that andys broke was first time seen it go ,and made the journey worth while, then for the rcm car to break after 5meters so we still don't no how fast it might be.. glad zen did so well the colours are growing on me thing that impresses me so much about his car are the gear changes there that quick and he doesn't seem to loose any speed not like the dragon rx7 his just dies when he changes ,the turbo that big... but over all its a really good day out and the scoobies if they sort problems out would walk it. how fit was the blonde redline girl there ,couldn't get a pic though cause the mrs kept telling me off, even thought she now appears to love simon norris
what heppened to rcm car, and when will be the next time the scoobies are out

Hi Bicco,

Just seen your photo's on another website.... nice.

I wasn't driving that well...... as I only came 39 out of 66 entrants on the handling!

I need LOADS more practice..... either that or let someone else drive!

Regards,
Shaun.

Cheers David, my mate Kev has remade the whole centre section of the manifold in 5mm high grade alluminium. Should be bomb proof now

I was looking at the wrong calendar re the rwyb dates (avon park...doh )

Still, not going to rush the car for tomorrow, got a few more upgrades to do.......phase 3 has started !! and 60kgs of phase 4 is on its way in an aeroplane from the USA

Plan to do Melborne on the 27th of this month.

I noticed that Elvington is on a slight incline, surely this will affect the times being set. A flat or dare I say it a slight decline would yield even faster times. I know it is a level (pardon the pun ) playing field for all so is not favoring anyone. However in Oz the very fastest times are being set on flat/declines. Bearing this in mind were you in shape to get into the eights at Elvington had some dodgy welding not let you down Andy?

I don't think it would quite have made the 8's I'm all too aware of how difficult it was to go from 10.2 to the 9's last year.
I think a very low 9 was on the cards though.

Steven you can MIG ally, it's just a complete b'stard to do and doesn't give you very good penetration, you just need the wire and pure Argon...oh and the torch tip melts instantly if you touch the weld pool...
