Go and have a listen to one of Simon Westons 'Falklands hero' talk's.....

Always admired that guy, my ambition was to meet him & shake his hand.

This ambition was completed last year, what a man.

Proud to be British... hey look beyond the immediate discomfort, things ain't that bad at all...

They - like the English - are distancing themselves from being British as it no longer represents something to shout about.

United Kingdom - my ****

Actually Jasey, the Scots, Northern Irish & Welsh are pretty much united.

We all "hate" the English

Even the Cornish do, and they are, technically, English

Disclaimer:

Please, if you are English and reading this don't be too sensitive to the use of the word "hate". Its in inverted commas for a reason

If, however, you are English and reading this and still find it offensive, then yes, you can, **** off, because you are far too retentive and uptight, and sum up everything thats bad about your nation

I "hate" the the English too - and most people would call me English

ps - it's only one half of the Northern Irish who "hate" the Engerlish

...and southerners hate northerners, northerners hate southerners, everybody hates scousers and then there's the in-bred norfolk folk, the brummies, the townies, the yokels, the yorkies, etc etc.

Face it, if you live more than 5 miles away the chances are you are hated

Why do we have to be proud, cant we just get on with it, dont want to spend all my time chest puffed out going on about how great it is here, until I have lived in every other country I cant really be sure it is that great.

Fairly certain its better than the Lebanon at the moment though.

what makes me proud is

1. we have a caring prime minister (who stays out of the country as much as possible)
2. we have the royal family (aren't they german? - freeloading gits)
3. we're compasionate enough to help other countries (yep let all those imigrants in to take our jobs and we'll give them all our benefits as well)
4. we have the national health service (we pay for it but can't find a dentist, have to cue for 12 months to get treatment as all the asylum seekers/ health tourists go straight to the top of the list)
5. our contribution to global warming (we pay more and more taxes to drive which is supposed to help towards gw although our levels are already below the expected forecast)
6. our government cares (yep they tell us what to eat, what to drink, more or less what to drive)
7. our police force (who'll come out if you ring them to report a burgular - 3 hours later or for most other crimes will be good enough to give you a crime number over the phone.
to be honest though they are busy sitting in their cars not pestering the mis-understood criminals but helping the public by catching people speeding at 3mph over the limit)
8. our taxes (yes i think 17.5% tax is fair - at least we can say we pay more than most other countries for the same goods)
9. our courts system (such a deterant by giving a murderer 15 years but saying he could be out in 7 with good behaviour, giving a drink driver who'd mown down a family 3 months community service)
10. our public services (yes we have clean running water but when the sun comes out we suddenly run short, trains can't run when the're leaves on the line, gritters run out of salt in the winter as they've used up their budget repairing our roads to an excellent standard in the summer, bin men are fussy about what rubish they'll take, etc, etc)

wish i'd win the lottery so i could pack my bags and leave this counrty

I do love these moaning about the country threads, but would like to balance out the daily mail inspired rants with some positives

How about the fact it's inconceivable that in the UK you'll ever want for food or shelter? A billion people living in other countries can't say the same.

Or the fact that the NHS is there to patch you up and keep you alive until it's no longer possible to do so?

Or the fact that you're free to do pretty much what you want, and no one is going to punish you for listening to music, stone you to death for adultery or take you away in the middle of the night for having thoughts that don't agree with the establishment.

Or the fact that for anyone with talent and drive the possibilities for making money and enjoying a great lifestyle are pretty much unlimited?

Anyone who really thinks that it's nirvana somewhere else in comparison should pack their bags and leave, and stop making chicken-sh*t excuses such as leaving if they won the lottery.

Good post. Right on the money.

To make a start at restoring pride, we could ban the Daily Mail, which seemingly has hordes of simpletons who believe every word in it.
Then we could get rid of everyone who goes "boo hoo look at all the chavs here they make my life unbearable and there's no other option
but to leave all my friends and family behind and move abroad, where there's no underclass and everything is just great." We could replace
those idiots with more Poles who actually seem grateful for a days work.

And from an English perspective, we're probably best off lining dynamite along Hadrian's Wall in attempt to seperate Jockland from England
and float all those skirt-wearing misery-guts off to the North Pole, so we don't have to listen to their chip-on-the-shoulder moaning anymore.
That's a vote-winning manifesto for all true English people right there, I tell you that.
