My local fill up also couldn't/didn't know what I was on about when I asked this question BUT there is no doubt that the fuel "seems" to be better, I don't have the STi back yet BUT the black car is revelling in "something" despite the hot temps, performance is "awesome" comparitively. Huge difference.

The reason I guess some Shell petrol stns "do not know" about the new fuel is most likely that Shell will want to properly manage & coordinate the "launch" of the product, once all the logistics, supply & advertising are in place. I doubt they will want to "dribble" information out to the general public before all is ready.
I guess also, what with increased competition with BP Ultimate & Tesco 99, that Shell utilise their existing V Power, European, product to better effect in the UK....

Yes to fuel, but does that mean i have to allow another 10 mins for "questions" from our top till person at that garage?
Hahaha.
Hmm, but it may be worth the grilling i get to buy the fuel!

Think i'm going to ask at my shell gagage tomorrow! My UK Turbo seems to have far more torque these last few days (before I even saw this thread).
Just had an oil change today (mobil 1 15w50) and she pulls like a good'en!

I have to agree too, in the last week or so mine has seemed better all round,
I only ever fill up with Optimax. In the last week even without driving like a pansy I have got just over 200 miles to 3/4 tank.
Need to fill up tonight so will quizz the guy in the garage too

Just filled up at my local shell garage and asked the guy there about new
optimax and he told me i just filled up with it.
seems their trying to keep it hush, hush till september when the advertising starts.i asked if it was 102ron and he said no but its more than 98
He could'nt give me an exact ron rating.

Filled up with Optimax for the first time in a while having used Tesco 99RON.
Did a cross-country run early this morning with very little if any traffic.
Car was as sweet as a nut and very quick. Really torquey and sweet when revved. It is definately different that is for sure (and the brakes even worked )

Now i have to go waste all my fuel so i can meet my 'mate' at Watnall then so i can fill up with the better stuff! LOL.
I shall have my earplugs at the ready
PS 'waste' means to aimlessly thrash around country lanes whilst grinning from ear to ear and slamming my insides around whilst braking!!

Another point, is that I dont feel comfortable with remapping MY car for the new Optimax until I know specifically what the octane level is and even then I may thing twice.
If it is a clear 2 ron (or more) higher than normal Optimax, what happens when you can't get hold of Optimax (which can be hard when travelling). You either have to use Octane Boosters, or you have to put in normal SUL, which may be a fair bit lower ron rating and cause you issues with pulling the ECU right back and even then may still cause the onset of DET. Not specifically knowing how much the ECU can compensate I am not entirely sure.... but if you are running fairly high boost and mapped to that on a specific fuel grade, going back 2ron is a fair amount (I already pick up more noise, switching between zero noise with the old optimax compared to BP SUL).
Just a thought........ any tuner care to comment on their thoughts about this?
Regards,
Shaun.

When mine is re-mapped i want it done for 98 ron, so that if i can only get 97 it won't be too bad, but if i do put 100-102 in then i might get a tiny bit extra

is it true that the new Optimax has been modelled on the Scottimax you have been using over recent years

You don't need remaps for new ages do you? I thought ECU quickly self adjusts even if you alternate between 95RON and 102RON. Mine's a fully standard spec. MY01.

Surely there is no way this stuff is going to be 102/3 RON, 100RON maximum I reckon.
It just doesn't make sense, if BP are selling 102RON for £2.30 a litre why would Shell sell the equivialnt for less than half.
It's almost certianly a European consolidatation, ie V Power.
BTW I hope I'm wrong and it is 102RON

Funny enough, only yesterday I filled up on the M3 on the way back from plymouth, and when I did a full-throttle burst when back on the motorway, I thought the transmission was going to break on kick-down!
I actually commented at the time to the other half that it felt like a good batch of fuel and went on to bore her to tears with calorific value and degradation etc
This is in an RS6 btw.
Lets hope it really is 100+ ron!
