I've just come back from Ireland (southern) and filled the s2000 up with V-Power at euro 1.26 (85p!!!) per litre just before we got on the ferry at Rosslare...

...it's never gone so well!

And I thought that before I saw this thread. Honest.

I have a Newage and the ECU seems to only adjust downwards but never back upwards. ou have to reset the ECU to get back to normal again.

My newage ECU constantly tries to advance as well as having the ability to pull back. Am I missing something as I thought all Newage ECU's did the same?

I have a PPP ECU at the moment, so that's probably why?. I am changing to a ECUTek3 though, so hopefully that's intelligent enough.

It will only advance to within it's original parameters though, so at some point, chucking in Higher RON fuel will do **** all to performance.

Just filled up today. Asked the staff about the new Optimax and they didn't know what I was talking about. (Southampton)

just put the new optimax in ma jap import what a diffrence pulls lot better and sounds meaner its like drivin a diffrent car spoke to the manager at ma local shell and he says all the shell optimax pumps have been replaced wi the new optimax and shell aint going to advertise it which seems a bit stupid to me

well i filled up tuesday night and it did'nt feel any different, still got the odd light on the knock link at the top end of the rev range when driving it hard, which i dont get when running booster

This was posted tonight on another forum I use by someone who works for Shell.

Received some more info today,

August 23rd is the launch date for V-Power, whether that means sites will start receiving V-Power or thats when signage is started to be replaced on sites but most sites will probably receive there first delivery of V-Power before Aug 23rd. It appears some sites may already have V-Power. Where I work we have not had an Optimax delivery for a while where before we were receiving at least one a week. This would suggest that most of the Optilmax left is on sites and V-Power is ready to be delivered to sites.
If you have a Optimax Club PlusPoints card, this will be replaced to a V-Power PlusPoints card but if your a low user of Optimax you may only receive a normal PlusPoints card. The Optimax Club card is not valid after 30th September.

An information pack should be arriving a site next week, so will post more details then or before if I get more info.

For me the most important thing is going to be knowing the RON rating.

I stopped using shell because my local one is never open and tescos 99 was obviously the one point higher. If this really is 102 or 103 ron then shell will get back a huge share of the jap car market that they lost.

i noticed the same with my car, i stuck my foot down and it felt a lot stronger and wondered why, i have not used full throttle in a while on my car so i put it down to that and different temp conditions etc etc.

the car does feel a bit more lively now IMO, although i would like it confirmed by the station before i go believing its anything other then me thinking its better because somebody else said so (although that does not really apply as i never knew about this new supposed optimax stuff until after i had booted it around )

I'm still a bit sceptical, my local shell garage said they haven't been told the optimax has changed. They said the diesel has changed though and that's why the forecourt was all dug up last week but obviously that is of no relevance to me. Next door at Tesco express they have just changed the SUL to 99 ron and it's priced at 98.9p per litre, so I'm sticking with that until I know exactly what's happened and, as someone else has also commented, I know exactly what ron it is.

Dont get too comfy with Tesco 99RON Ken; it cost the same as diesel here in Sheffield when it was introduced. Its been dearer than Optimax on a number of occasions and its currently the same price.....

As Ive said before; if Tesco took the **** on price with bread and milk at different locations then everyone'd be up-in-arms.

I've swictched from using Optimax in the atom in favour of T99 and TBH the thing fly's on T99 , put a tank of Optimax back in and i really thought i had an engine problem... will give the new stuff a wirl though... with a very light car slight differences make for big gains. I ran the sti only on shell though, but i'd rather drive the 6 miles further with the atom for the t99 at the mo...

They provided several tests to support their claims. The Authority obtained expert advice. It considered that the claim "best performance unleaded" suggested that the advertisers'' fuel produced better performance results than all other unleaded fuels. Because the advertisers did not provide sufficient evidence that compared the performance of vehicles using Optimax with those using competitive super unleaded commercial petrol, the Authority considered that the advertisers had not shown that Optimax produced better results than all other unleaded fuels, the Authority told the advertisers to delete the claim until they could substantiate it.

Must be my longest tank of fuel ever! LOL.
It bloody disappears when you dont want it to and lasts forever when you do want it to **** off so i can refill at Watnall, via my mate behind the counter!

What about the test done on Fifth Gear. It showed Optimax was the best out of the ones tested there.

Which shell garage is that, cause I've been to a few in Edinburgh and they don't seem to know anything about the change, maybe cause it was part-time Joe numpty behind the counter

The one at dreghorn, seafield and the shell at the bottom of Carlton hill and it was a wee german behind the till that knew all about it.

First time you put it in the car splutters and doesnt want to go anywhere but after a couple of mile she accelerates quicker and has a lot more pull.

I thought it was cos everyone else was saying but even the missus noticed and she hardly drives the car

I'll be having my car mapped in the next month or so. How will this work if say I have it mapped with 98 RON Optimax and then they stop selling it and it's now 100-102 RON? Or is the concensous that the new Optimax is already out there at all stations (I'm in Leeds). Seems very bizarre if it is out there somewhere that Shell aren't shouting about it.

Went to my local Shell today...

1st garage has no optimax at all - been without it for a month they said due to pump problems..... they wern't aware of any new fuel coming out to replace optimax....

2nd garage had optimax which I filled up with.. I then asked the lady sales assistant who said they haven't got the new optimax yet but they knew "it was on its way"

I filled up with Optimax at my local yesterday - £1.05 p/l with regular priced @ 97.9.
Filled back up today at one around 1/2 mile away - Optimax £1.01 regular 97.9

Both these garages are usually identical on price.

Mind you, I did forget to ask them if it was the fast stuff!

Filled up to day, asked about the new stuff they said it going to be next week, so i look forward to giving it ago, same price and they said will get the new bonus points card before the end of the month.
