It also been at least 10c cooler tha last few weeks. Just a thought although the mappers comments add weight to it being the fuel..

I have just filled up on the way home at the Shell garage in Solihull, I asked
the lad behind the counter about the "New" Optimax, he said there is a new
one out next month called V something, I said arh you mean V-Power to which
he said yeah I think that's what it is called and then asked me how the hell I knew about it

Looks like V-Power is on its way then

i filled up at a shell garage yesterday and the guy behind the counter asked me if i was a regular optimax user, to which i obviously replied yes, and he said they are stopping selling it on august the 23rd and replacing it with shell V Max which is 100 ron.

Last night I filled up at my local Shell in Taplow... the first time in a couple of weeks. Whilst I was there I thought I'd ask the regular, and friendly, chap if he knew anything about this new fuel. Unfortunately the 'regular' guy was away and his stand-in was present.

I asked if he knew anything about a new fuel... and he smiled. After a short time and assuming he didn't hear me I asked the question again. After a "hmmm..." and another period of silence I asked the same question but with a few different words. After yet another smile I asked a 4th time and proposed that he couldn't tell me because it was a secret(?) Finally an answer... "I'm sorry, I can't understand a word you're saying."

Er...? Ah well. Damn good English on his part... perhaps my own is lacking then!

Shell site quoting V-Power to be 99RON. Shame it isn't 100+ but at least I can now choose Tesco or Shell to refuel (car mapped on 99).

http://www.shell.com/home/Framework?...t_ga_1602.html

1RON is not much of a Difference.... the OE ECU would be capable of handle that and alot more... How much would the new V power cost?

In another V-Power thread here on SN, a Shell Customer Service Professional has quoted that compared to Optimax, V-Power will be typically £0.01 or £0.02 more expensive per litre.

For me, the jury's still out on the new V-Power and will need a couple more tankfuls before I decide if I like it (although 0.4 RON shouldn't make any difference!) My UK Turbo is relatively standard except for H&S centre de-cat and b/box sections and it doesn't like V-Power at the moment. It's lost its grunt. I'm hoping it's just Shell getting rid of the last of their Optimax which might be a dodgy batch or something.

I have an Autronics ECU and mapped with the 98 Ron Optimax. Will I need to have a remapped for the new 99 Ron V-Power.

Kind regards

You won't need to - but if you did you would get some performance improvement.

My experience of quite a few tankfuls of Vpower is that it is far superior to old Optimax and Tesco 99 - more than than the 0.4RON difference would suggest.

Sorry but I feel there is more to life than talking about the RON ratings of petrol. How many times do we feel the need to talk about V power, tesco 99,Cadbury 99, Heinz 57?

Who cares - sorry guys but SIAL

Valid question, but for me I don't mind when people want to re-cover old ground. Repeat posts about "What oil..?" and "Best air filter..?" can get tiresome (especially if there's been no search effort) but it can also give the newer members a chance to contribute. Forums might also be boring places if a topic was only ever covered once.

Like I say, valid point though and sorry for taking this thread off topic.
