The bare minumum is 20 days PA incl Bank Holidays! I know this as my brother in law had this at his last place ... he's not there any more!

As above, the law says minimum 20 days leave per year. At the moment, that can include bank holidays.
The law requires 4 weeks notice of leave (if no other agreement exists), though I think it's pretty well accepted that the minimum period of notice for leave is twice the length of the leave requested (that's what we work too here anyway).
Also, an employer is not obliged to grant an employee leave when they request it (request must be in writing). They have seven days to reply to a written request for leave (again in writing) if it is not acceptable for the leave to be taken at that time.
