From my limited understanding cams may give you some extra power, but normally they shift the existing power band around in a lot of cases (but this doesnt mean in ALL cases). Ideally you want cams matched to your heads to ensure you are shifting and burning the fuel/air as required to get the best power etc. Duration and lift changes can make a difference..... especially for torque and turbo spool (get the air out quicker).

I'm certainly no expert on this real technical stuff, so best waiting for a pro to join in.

I may be tinkering with cams.
