Now i have to learn 'Zoints'? Sounds like a novilty pack of sweets from the 80's.

There is something unique about owning or liking Subaru Imprezas that strikes a common chord in the ScoobyNet membership. Don't ask me why, but it attracts kindred spirits that immediately interact positively - this is very rare, if not unique. For example:

- I have sent over a thousand pounds to a total stranger on ScoobyNet for Group Buy. A couple of weeks later I had a new 2.5l block personally delivered to my door, saving me about a grand. Top job. I've bought loads of stuff from S'Netters and always grabbed a bargain and made new friends.

- My son and I have been on numerous track days with other ScoobyNetters, Nurburgring trips etc. There is an instant common bond.

- Ditto karting enduros and other social events. Meeting new friends (and old) guaranteed.

- My wife and I went on a week's photographic holiday in Switzerland with ten other ScoobyNetters we'd not actually met. We all stayed in the same chalet. We all had a ball.

Fact is, the Subaru thing attacts the right kind of people for me, and filters out a lot of others that I don't respect or trust, do not want to interact with, nor they with me. Zoints can **** off.

Thank you,

Richard.

Hi folks!

I'm David Chapman, I work with Zoints. I was invited in to answer a few questions and explain what we're trying to do with Zoints. I hope you guys don't mind me starting with one of the most recent posts, but I agree with Hoppy 100%.

I agree 100%! ScoobyNet is an incredible forum. There is something very special going on here. And THAT is why I founded Zoints a couple years ago. A forum much like ScoobyNet made a huge difference in MY life. If you're interested in the story behind Zoints and why we're of the opinion that forums like ScoobyNet are the "killer application" of the internet, please give this a quick read.

Long story short, there are many forums across the net like ScoobyNet that are making a positive difference. Whether they be car forums, humor forums, video game forums, Chrons Disease support forums, or whatever; these virtual extensions of our society are bringing people together just like you mentioned. INCREDIBLE relationships are being formed. And Zoints wants to help make that happen more and more.

I can say with all of my heart that Zoints has no desire to dilute ScoobyNet's quality. That's why Zoints aims to drive new members to this site by interest. As a quick example, if someone is interested in racing, they will be listed here: http://zoints.com/tag/racing -- if they own a Nissan, they'll end up at the Nissan forum. If they own a civic, and the Honda forum, if they own a Subaru, they'll end up here. Think of Zoints as a human driven forum match-making service And most importantly, it's managed by forum owners who understand the dynamics of communities.

It's awesome to hear that. Isn't it incredible that technology is starting to bring society together like never before? These are exciting times.

I know what you mean. Truth be told, I can barely figure out where to put the nozzle when i'm pumping gas. I'm one of those people who make company's like Jiffy Lube rich As awesome as ScoobyNet is, it's not a place i'm going to hangout and form relationships because it's just not something i'm that interested in (no offense!). I'm a decent person, and i'm sure you're a good person. But we both have our separate interests which is great. Zoints allows people who share the same interest as you to find their way to this great community. That way, maybe that next group buy you make will save you even more

Wow, this got lengthy. Hahah, I apologize.

I totally understand your concern because I share it. I myself own a forum about the size of ScoobyNet. I have made some incredible friends over time thanks to that site and would never do anything to harm it. That's why we've been very careful as we've developed Zoints to contour the system in a way where people end up at forums they're actually interested in. If they want to talk about what they did at school, they can do that on Zoints or at some general discussion forum. But if they have an interest in Subarus, then we work to get them here

We have some pretty smart people working for Zoints (I had to hire them to make up for my shortcomings ). Everyone who works for Zoints owns or moderates a forum. We're partnered with the likes of Big-Boards.com and represented on forum admin sites like TheAdminZone.com. I'm not going to sit here and say Zoints is perfect, because its not. But we're working hard to create a solution that will be beneficial to ScoobyNet for a long time to come.

And it's got nothing to do with the profits one would make by having somebody like 'Google' buy into your customer base for say.... HALF A BILLION POUNDS!!!!

PS - Done some digging and found why the server at S-Net keeps crashing............. there's been some modifications all right.....

Go to your usercp here then scroll all the way to the bottom and uncheck the two boxes under "Zoints Options"

And yes, only you can see your link. If you were to link to Zoints, THEN people would be able to see yours.

Sorry but I do not see the point in Zoints (pun intended) for ScoobyNet, unless there is some way for SN to generate revenue from it.

As said by others, it'll probably draw in even more trolls or pointless posters, and we have far to many of those at the moment, about which not a lot is done, apart from maybe removing the odd post. Perhpas this should be addressed before potentially opening the floodgates to more of them.

Yes, you can turn the options off, and I have done so, but would it be possible for the webmaster set the default for Zoints options to be disabled. The majority probably won't use it, so why force us to have to go and make change to disable it? Obviously if you can't set it to be disabled by default then so be it.

If I need to find another forum to discuss things, I'll simply pull up google and do a quick search, it's not exactly difficult, and does not require additional software to be added to a BBS and potentially cause a slowdown as the server has to potentially process an additional line of data per user/thread/post.

Anyway, it's not our board, not our decision and unless we all state we do not wish this ferature I doubt Shaun/Simon (Though I thought Simon never had anything to do with SN anymore and did not have access to the Webmaster account ) will remove it.

Couldn't you just buy advertising rights and have a Zoints banner, then it wouldn't get in the way of Scoobynet at all?

And who went to who, to discuss this joining? Did Scoobynet contact you, or you contact Scoobynet?

Markus,
Get a grip and grow up.

ScoobyNet MUST BE YOUR LIFE, if you have to take EVERY oppourtunity to have a pop at us. It's like water off a ducks back with me, but you must have half of a real life if this means that much to you, that you had to take the time to change your profile with that garbage.

Regards,
Shaun.

Excuse me, but others are making the same comments here as well, so why not have a pop at them as well Shaun.

As for the location being garbage, change it then if you don't like it. I shan't as I like it as it is. I'm stating a personal opinion, if you don't like that then tough.

Seems to me you don't like people pointing out that something you probably thought was a good idea is in fact rather stupid, and others seem to agree with me here as well.

Thanks for the swift response.

You're not American by any chance? Wouldn't know an Impreza if it ran you over? Have written the response above more than a few times? How many did I score?

But I fail to see how welcoming, eg a deranged American teenager, to ScoobyNet is going to help me upgrade my TD05/16G, or advise me on which are the best headers, or where I can get specialist brake pads at a good price.

Do your members have a view on UK speed limits or use of speed cameras? How about congestion charging? Or for that matter, what about the current debate on extremist Muslims in the UK?

The vast majority of ScoobyNet members are mature professionals, living in the UK. They are passionate and knowledgeable about all things automotive and as part of that general mindset, we have a lot of other common interests.

There are also quite a few international members that have gravitated towards ScoobyNet over the years, and stayed. They are characterised by a very high level of specialist knowledge and generous contribution. I know they get back some of the same.

To get the most from ScoobyNet, and also to contribute positively to this rather special on-line community, you need more than just an internet connection.

Richard.

Trails,
Somebody that remarks about someone else taking the time to reply with a decent response by saying "reading that post makes my skin crawl", doesnt deserve ANY response from me!

Markus,
You obviously did not get past my first line of my reply to you.

You constantly sh*t stir about ScoobyNet with every oppourtunity you get. This although becomes tiresome for others, ultimately means that your life must revolve around ScoobyNet, how it is run etc etc. This is both unhealthy and laughable at times.

You keep stirring it and you will be picked out... plain and simple.

Regards,
Shaun.
