Banned? Nope, didn't ban everyone. Invisions' servers went down and when they came back up the board was not accessible any more. That's my story and I'm sticking to it

Please can someone explain it in words of 1 syllable with lots of smilies to make me feel happy?

Beth,
It's a social network, similar in a way to myspace. It acts a bit like a search facility for forums. You can search for forums (or as they term it communities) from zoints based on things that might interest you, then you can join those forums and it will link to your user account on those forums.

It would have been much better form to have it set to off as default.
what about people who work the rigs, or are at sea etc and wont log on until they return.
In that time, Markus could well have registered a zoints account in their name and gone on a rampage.
They (the fraudee?) would then return to find emails banning them from every forum on the zoints network.
Zoints imho seems to me to be a little like communism.
Great on paper but a pain in the **** in real life...

With regards to possible reasons for SN using Zoints, I've had a look at the community owner tour and found this:
Catalyze your community with Zoints, the Internet's first community-based social network. You will:
Gain New Members - Zoints will help new members find your forum via our innovative networking system.
Increase Revenue - You receive ad impressions on your member's profiles and profiles of anyone they refer.
Improve Brand Recognition - Brand your member's profiles with your forum colors, logo, and links.
With the surging popularity of social networks, Zoints provides you a means to compete with larger entities and keep your members coming back.
More than 60 communities utilize Zoints, including some of the largest in the world.
(here)
and this:
Zoints provides a new revenue stream for forum owners. When your members signup via your forum, you receive Adsense impressions on their profiles AND the profiles of members they subequently refer. Setting up the revenue sharing is as easy as entering your Adsense publisher ID (and channel if so desired).

There is also the following found here
How does this social network benefit communities?
Since day one, we set out to design a system that would help ensure that communities continue to flourish in this changing social and technological landscape. Take a step back and think about it. What is going to benefit you more in the long run? Enhanced profiles on your community so your forum members can continue to interact with those they know? Or an incredibly advanced profile system and social network where your members will build profiles that have the potential to not only help drive traffic to your community, but generate revenue for you?
Revenue Sharing
As stated above, this will be a revenue sharing system. By simply entering your Google Adsense publisher ID into our system, you will automatically receive a percentage of impressions on the profiles of the members from your forum. In addition, you will receive impressions on the profiles of members your members subsequently refer. For example, if you refer 25 members who each refer 10 friends, you will receive ad impressions on 250 different profiles. After less than one day of using this system, the top forum has received 896 impressions as of this writing. As the social network grows, this could potentially be a significant new revenue stream for community owners.
Looks like it is just another revenue generation method.

To be fair, its not like he's just going to do it out of the goodness of his heart is it? This place costs money so he wants it to pay.
Fair enuf I say, as long as there are 1) no costs to us and 2) we benefit and those benefits get communicated to us....
The trouble is it just got dumped on us with no real explanation/justification, the sales pitch was diabolical (seemingly designed to be flamed) and it didnt occur to them to ask/ test the idea out the very people its 'supposed' to benefit.
Ah well it livened us all up for 24 hours
maybe webby was just trying to generate a bit more activity round here
