As for residuals, unfortunately nothing is holding it money in today's market..!
Still a very nice car, although IMHO I'd ditch the graphics..!

Interesting Question….
I find sometimes human nature kicks in here… those that say its not good are in the camp of ‘do not have’, ‘can not afford’, ‘have something else’. Likewise those that do have something (e.g. like a MY06 STi) will support it because they have spent their hard earned cash on it. I believe this scenario is also somewhat true with respect to those that own a ‘classic’ compared to those that own a new(ish) 30K car. If you have a classic then sure its gonna be good (and just as well as it might be 1/3 the price of a new MY06). I know this is just a general statement.
I pick up a new MY06 STI in black with PPP 1//9/2006. I am upgrading from a WRX PPP (MY04). What made me do this?
1) I wanted another Scooby before trying something different
2) I wanted something new where I would be the first driver (so I know how its been treated)
3) I wanted something with 3 years warranty out of the box
4) I wanted something that in real world conditions was fast on the road and would make me smile (but could also handle a family and go to the dump to off load grass cuttings etc).
OK … I might have wanted an EVO 9 (340 or 360). Why did I not go for one?
1) Because I can not afford one (or to run it)
2) Because the interior is a disgrace and no amount of power will make me spend 30-35K on.
Some will say ‘go for the 2.0 STi engine’. Others will say ‘get a JDM’. Not for me – why?
Cos to be honest whilst I love the Scooby (‘gets flame suit ready’), I’m not really into cars. I am not really into Mods. In fact I’m sure I am a disgrace to some Scooby lovers on here ‘There goes that git in a new Scooby and he can not even drive it’……
OK – so I am actually into cars – but not to the extent that I want to spend time and money and effort ringing a few 10’s BHP out of it. I think as someone has said here, once you get over 300 BHP in a 4 wheel drive car (I think mine will have 316), the difference in overall performance between 300-400 is more down to driver since anyone can drive that type of car ‘fast’.
I run my own business, also a parent, husband etc etc. The car has to work out of the box – time spent on it is spend ‘driving it’ – not working on it (its not a hobby).
I actually like the look of the new MY06 STi – in black it looks evil and that’s fine by me.

I will try and dig out the figures - however it was not a 'deal' so to speak - how could it be after getting rid of a new car after 2 years!! I was either going to wait and see what the MY08 would bring - or take the chance now and get a MY06. From memory I think I got about 12000 for the WRX (arrhhhh that’s like 40% in 2 years!). However since I was buying from a main dealer I have the £3000 fuel. I think this is a good deal in that it really is £3000 off the cost of the car but also forces you to use the savings to buy something you need (i.e. fuel). I could have gone for the ‘cheaper’ routes but overall this deal was fine for me

Had MY05 WRX for 18 months and itching to go up the ladder. It really does not make sense to trade this early but i can understand and agree with most of your reasons to change.
My head says keep for three years but my heart says you only live once so dig deep and live the dream.
Bet i don't make three years. In fact i will be suprised if i make two.
Good luck with the new STI. Have a smile for me when you drive off the dealer forecourt .

I was in the same position about 2mnths ago... new shape STi or old shape.
Heard some bad reviews for the new one and ended up sourcing a brand new MY05 instead and to be honest makes me smile every single time i look at it, turn the key and hear that engine burble and put my foot down!!
Its an amasing car, and the drive is like nothing i have ever tried before.. it truly is on rails.
Your call at the end of the day, drive them both at a dealer if you can (im sure they will have a used example of a MY05 somewhere near you) and make your decision... its your hard earned, make sure you spend it on something that will make you smile just as hard tommorrow as it does today.

Ive had an 02 WRX Bugeye for 3 and half years and decided I wanted an STI before I tried something else.
I wanted either WR1 I like the colour, an 05 Black STI or the new 2.5 STI.
After speaking my local garage and taking the 06 STI out for a test drive. I loved it straight away. My mate works in the garage and has had Subarus all his days and says the 2.5 is the best model yet.
I got an 8 month model with 8000 miles on it UK Spec for a very good price.
Mines is standard no mods yet. Im taking to rolling road in 2 weeks to get my starting point before changing the exhaust, panel filter and a small remap.
I love the power, its instant. The handling is awesome as well. You cant wipe the smile off my face.
I do miss the burble but not that much.
The things is with the new 06 out you are getting cracking deals on the blobeyes. Test drive them both and I think you will be tempted by the 06.

Indeed .....
Thats the main reason why I am getting the PPP on my new STi - OK, a bit more power but the sound will be back (perhaps not to my MY04 PPP WRX but close enough)

I had a ninja back box and H&S centre section and cat back on my 02 WRX
I take a bugeye exhaust wont fit on a 06 STI ?

and the easiest way to free up power too - £99 to replace that section with a straight through and gives more sound and more power.... perfect
best to get the backbox too while you are there though.
For me next it is a sports cat to replace the front two cats. To be honest though I may change the whole lot to a Milltek 3" system with sports cat and sell the existing two parts I have. Apparently to get more than 350bhp in the 2.5 it needs a 3 inch exhaust.

Definately found out with work that its in feb my CTR goes, so gotta wait a little longer than expected..
God i wish i could just Hibinate for 4 month and make the pain of waiting go away...
Cheers Again
