That's not their fault... That's down to the goverment of the past few years.

BTW - Seems that real police officers are going to be somewhat scarce soon. You'll soon have nothing to help you but a community Support Officer and only during normal office hours.

You have been warned...

Anyway...

Sorry to hear what happend Phil. Hope they manage to recover some forensic evidence, and gain a prosecution.

To a point that is true - a good friend of mine works in traffic and he is one of the good guys - lenient but firm, yes he is even a petrol head and puts his foot down but has no time for joyriders or the Nova/Saxo brigade driving through built up areas at 60mph - he hates his job through to all the beurecrecy. he is 42 now and cant wait until he is 50 and take early retirement. his own words were 'i loved the police force but it has degenereated into something i detest'

sad really

Most people would rather be on a murder charge than dead on a slab with a knife sticking out of their chest! Bottom line, if he wasn't doing something he shouldn't have been doing, he'd never of had a problem! I think the law should be amended such that a person is immune from subsequent civil or criminal action if they are found to have acted in self-defence in the initial trial! You live by the sword, you die by it. If the Scum don't like it, here's a novel idea: give up stealing, get a job and become a reasonably productive member of society!!

It's an old, but valid argument: if you broke into a bank and demanded 30k at Gun/knife point you'd get 10 years if convicted, but break into someones house and threaten them for their car keys and -in the unlikely even that the police actually catch anyone- they'll get, what.... a couple of years if they're unlucky?

No deterent, no end to this VERY serious type of crime!

There is a desire by the government and the justice system of this country to condition us into accepting a level of crime, one of the consequences is not to punish criminals, this way they can say that the prison population is not increasing and that criminals are becoming 'normalised' into society.

The truth is of course that they are still comitting crime and not getting punished. By convincing us not to take the law into our hands helps this perverted course. As stated on this thread, some people would hesitate because of the consequenses.

The law therefore in my view is distancing itself from the people and becoming an arm of this vast 'social experiment' (no political connotation here). If you hurt someone who breaks into your house you may not feel good about it but you are not wrong, if the police arrest you then they are wrong and are not upholding the law.

This is one of the contributing factors as to why my scooby has now gone, and a volvo V50 is on order. You can't be too precious, but what with the current climate for car jackings and aggrevated break ins for car keys it doesn't add to the joy of owning a scoob!

[quote=SwissTony]this is getting beyond a joke, nothing is ever done about it by the police.quote]

Your right, with insurance prices as they are at the minute and the amount of drivers going uninsured something needs doing.

Some drivers only go without insurance because they cant afford it, so are just ***** that need locking up too mind. The police are the first to winge when a driver is caught without insurance. But they are doing nowt to stop the thefts in the first place.

THE ONLY DETERANT FRM ANY CRIME is prison and a good stretch, if they come out after ten years and do it again at least its been ten years without them causing more trouble and then they can have another stretch for comitting a crime again a further ten years without them, they would soon get sick, whats a six month jail term, nowt, hows it surposed to stop them.

But i think ALL car enthusiast clubs need to arrange a huge CAR (march) together in London, (can you imagine the size of it) demanding more action from the police for DAMAGE and THEFT and also for INSURANCE PRICES and TOLL ROAD plans. As car ownership seems to be getting punnished in this country, the list is endless.

I got a £80.00 FINE from the DVLA for a car not being sorned, bit silly or me but the car aint been insured, taxed or tested or even seen a road in three years. If someone is caught driving the car then YES, fine them for no insurance, tax or test and on this evidence a fine for the car not being sorned. The car is an old J Reg cavalier that has no engine and almost no other parts. To be honest i have more important things to think about than that bloody thing, it's in my dads yard covered by alsorts of ****e.

I agree staffychance about a massive protest drive through London. We don't protest enough in this country, the French and Spanish do and things do change. While the rubbish that runs this country keeps on dumping on the populace and we tolerate it they will continue to do so.

You are all talking about we should organise a protest march/drive thru London, well lets stop talking and bloody well do it!!!

I'm more than happy to see police out there on our roads, and think this idea that speed cameras can be substitued for police is a really daft idea. As has been alluded to the amount of uninsured drivers out there is increasing because we haven't got the police we used to have.
Also I think it would be easy to sort out the problem of the cameras if we made it more expensive to maintain them than they cost. If we all got out in the middle of the night and set fire to one camera at the same time they would have to take a bit of notice.

Also I have never been pulled in my scoob, which I think is a bit of a joke. Never once have they stopped me to see if i've stolen it, I'd like to think that somewhere the police are taking a bit of note of whats going on around them, instead of throwing the donuts down their necks.

Priorities seem all wrong to me, lets fine the speeders but let the knife wielding car thieves on their way as we have no more space for them in prison. Its obvious who the real danger to society is.

This country is ****e!!!

well i cant really say anything about police tbh, they pulled out the stops to catch the guys who nicked my car, they sorted and provided me with free boarding up for my door and now they have told me they will pay for the storage and recovery of my stolen car :d

its not really the police i was having a dig at,and demonstrating in London would have no effect whatsoever on the police. As far as I'm concerned the police are there to keep us safe but the government are not giving them the resources to do their jobs. Get rid of the cameras and use the money they have made to put more coppers on the streets, and stop te light sentnces. This country is going to the dogs and the government need a slight nudge (or kick in the b0ll0cks) to sort it out again.

Maybe its time we made our feelings known.

Phil, really sorry to hear about what happened mate. Believe me, nobody is more frustrated about the beauracracy in the police than them. Check out the coppersblog which is read by loads of police, the vast majority of whom just want to go out there and do their jobs properly.http://coppersblog.blogspot.com/

On a serious note, make sure you get your door reinforced now, don't mean to frighten you but once burglars know they can get into a place and know what's there, they are something like 4 times more likely to come back, especially as they know there's a lovely scooby there waiting for them
