Thanks again for the support. The main aim is to stop anyone using the crap NCP or other non secure carparks that advertise as secure. Hopefully my experience will warn anyone not to take any vechicle into these carparks until they sort out the security.

The security on my scooby was the standard cobra cat 1 alarm and immobilzer with RAC tacker 24h. But whatever you have is worthless if they have the time and they really want it.

Does anyone have any experience of dealing with insurance companys with a stolen car ????? I have informed police, RAC tracker and the insurance company, so everything is going ahead. I been told to be carefull with the first quote they come back with being low. Only bought the car 6 months ago and insured it for the purchase price. Any advice would be appreciated.

I won't be using one, that's for sure.

Chances are they will come back with a low price but you can negotiate by showing adverts of similar cars for more money. I hope your no claims bonus was protected!

I've mentioned on previous theft threads about parking on BHX and NEC car parks...as in DON'T.

Same goes for Donnigton park, The Pod, Drayton Manor, West Mids Safari etc..basicallly andwhere a Scoob is left for the best part of a day or more.

What else can I do?

Stock sucurity is useless. Cat1 means nothing as all factory installs on UK newage cars are identical and aren't properly integrated systems, as are the trackers (done one - done them all) and dealer fit systems on euro/jdm cars are only as good as the installer (and belive me - I've seen appauling "cat1 security" installs). Physical cat3 security is mandatory. And you can't beat removing and pocketing a choice vital ECU component.

Not me personally, but a friend of mine's car was only 4 months old (not Subaru), and he held out and got a replacement brand new motor.
Insurers were adament he would only get the "today value" but he held out and got his new car.
And as afar as i knew, or know, i thought most policies paid out with new car for 6 month old or less anyway? But then again...........................

Its a shame you didnt take out gap insurance, then you would have got back what you paid for it.We did this on the wifes 2 year old cooper,it did cost 300 to cover it for 2 years which i thought was worth it. Not much use to you now though!

Not sure. was told by RAC tracker people that if the car is left for a certain amount of time, it goes into standby(mine had been left in NCP aiport parking), so's not to drain battery. it then takes a few hours to start up gain ????????? therefor they can take it somewhere (ie container or underground carpark) where no signal can be found. I may have mis-understood, but this seems very poor. Also got told by RAC tracker people that is is becoming increasingly frequent that they simply find the tracker and discontect it!!! Sounds even ****ter !!!!!! Surely they could have some kind of battery back up, where if the wires are discontected the car can still be tracked ?????

Because it was probably ripped out prior to moving it.

All a tracker is to me is a slight discount on insurance (very very slight...).

Trackers are chocolate teapots now. The signal can be blocked easily with an easy to acquire, cheap device giving them all the time in the world to locate and disarm/remove it. A good alarm and anti-hijack is worthwhile against your average ******, physical devices such as Disklocks are a good next step, and Dipol gear locks are one of the best you can have. If a good pro-thief wants it however, and with a value of several £000's they certainly do, there's nothing you can do unfortunately. If your car has more devices to overcome then they may well move on to an easier target, but if your specific car is what they want then they'll get it. You can limit the threat, but in todays society it can never be removed

Public car par with people scrabbling around searching for something to remove ... surely someone / security guards would notice?!

Anyhoo, I thought that they were "hidden" somewhere & then welded in so that they couldn't be removed?!

No .... feel for you TYPE20 as I have a MY05 T20 and know how good they are.

I know its too late to say it now, but I always take a hire car to the airport now in preference to leaving mine in a car park whilst I am away.

Spoke with Iain about values just the other day ... have you thought about getting an estimated value in writing from him to counter any insurance company quoted figure ?

afaik there are two basic places for part of the RAC system to be located, find it and no more tracker (it's been covered several times on SN).

sorry bout your car m8, secure car park, you mayaswell leave it at tescos or summat, why on earth do we pay £40 a week to park our cars in a secure car park with no security its a disgrace, maybe if watchdogs got onto em and told em if they cant do their job properly then they will have to pay for the cars theyd soon pull their fingers out and get off their asses and patrol the grounds a bit more. they should bring some sort of id card out, no id card no getting through barrier simple as that.

TBH, its sad in all respects.
I have a works car park with security (i use that loosely), and we have actually sat in our works canteen watching ppl scour the car park and actually try to take a car! And it was 'us' and not the bloody security that actually went outside to tackle them and chase them off.
Pathetic. All 'security' would say is, and bear in mind there are cameras everywhere, that it isnt their job to get involved or take on anyone like that. LOL. HAHAHA. I mean, i must have missed the point, what the f**k else is security there for but to stop someone doing something like that!
I bet the NCP's are the same. Unless they get it on film, you wont find anyone confronting anyone else i would not have thought. They just wont take the chance on being seriously injured tackling them. And they are not trained in any kind of defence to do it right.
But i agree totally that there is no way a car park can be labelled as secure when this kinda **** keeps happening, and allowed to happen! Pish, pure undiluted pish!

Just a catch up for everyone. Still no news on my beloved Scooby . Either from RAC tracker or Police. Just finished filling in, and now getting ready to post the insurance forms along with the two sets of keys. It really does feel like the farewell now Just stared looking through the pictures and its doing me no favours. oh well so long and R.I.P.

The 06 T20 looks pretty damn decent.. and a lot cheaper than the 25... Only gives up ~35 BHP too...(the 06 is 380 BHP isn't it?)

Agree totally. All you can really do is deter by making life more difficult. Although I've not done it to mine yet, I've often wondered about displaying a couple of stickers that belong to a completely different alarm system. Again, only making life more difficult though.

To the original poster, sorry for your loss and I hope it all works out well.

Really gutted for you mate & I sadly know exactly how you feel as my STi was stolen just last month!
RAC Trackstar proved useless & when we phoned them, they gave us a 101 different reasons why it might not actually work!
Total waste of money IMHO, it took ages to get hold of them, ages to get through to the 'right person' & even longer to get 'em shifted into action! (They got the wrong car details up, the wrong address, everything! Arrgghh!)
Definitely wouldn't bother with it again!

Really do feel for you mate. I do know how you feel having had 2 cars stolen in the 70/80's from British Rail car parks. All the aggravation, the old bill are not interested, the insurance want to cheat you and then having to buy another car with the loss of some of your NCB (no protected NCB in those days).
I did learn later on that if I was unlucky enough to have another one pinched that it might be worth seeking legal advice on suing the car park owner for negligence, especially if it's advertised as secure, further, if there is a disclaimer notice stating the owner is not responsible etc... is not worth the board it's painted on. It's there to deter people from taking legal action. The prices they charge for parking is outrageous and then they shirk responsibility for parking your car securely, you may as well leave it parked on a public road for nothing!
Finally, I do have some experience on successfully suing a large corporate body, I won't go into details here for legal reasons and they settled out of court, as they do in most cases. Take some advice it won't cost much.

Gutted for you mate, i work at EMA on the Cargo side and regularly get pulled by the police when im in the beast on my way home in the morning, which i don't mind as id rather be stopped every night just to make sure its me than the one night they don't and its nicked.

Q. Did you inform tracker that you were going away on holiday ? when i went away the other year i contacted tracker and gave them the number of scoobyclinic as she was booked in for some work, so while i was happily getting plastered and sun tanned my pride and joy was safe at the clinic

Insurance quotes are always low on the first go, so tell them to try again
