Harvey has a good point there, Shell can't announce untill all stations are primed as if they did and someone checked it and the station concerned hadn't been switched they could take it to Trading Standards, so untill all is ready it will remain "Optimax".
cheers

I am sure it's not personal however there have been a number of people on here quoting very good sources saying things like - it's all hype and no different to Optimax; it's only a name change because some optician uses eye fluid called Optimax; it's 102 RON; the launch date is x; all Shell stations have it; not all Shell stations have it.
It's the wonder of Scoobynet - people read the bit that supports their view of the world and ignore everyone else.
From putting what I believe to be the new Shell into my car, it runs far better then Tesco 99. Their again, subjectively (and objectively according to Evo magazine) Scoobies run better on plain Optimax than Tesco 99 as well. Certainly that is my experience and I also do not see a price differential any more.
We will all know the truth in a few days.

The performance version in Europe is rated at 100ron so that will be what the UK will receive as well. There would be little point in wasting money developing a completely new fuel for the UK market that "out performs" the current Optimax when such a fuel is already in place, tried and tested in Europe for several years.
No doubt as mentioned it'll be superior in it's composition of ingredients, not just it's ron value as the performance car market is definately greater in numbers now, then it's ever been.
As also mentioned it's going to be in place at many station already as there's not way it would be logistically possible to fill each station the night before. Also what if a particular station's tanks aren't empty of regular Optimax. They've probably been flushing through for a good month now with the "new" stuff.
Pricing wise I an't see it being more than a penny or 2 above current Optimax as Shell won't want to price themselves out. Regardless of the advantages and being superior to Tesco99, the general public are pretty stupid and will only look at the price on the forecourt, not at the quality of fuel thats on offer.

If they put the price up then it will be a bad move because tesco's 99 (which i assume its trying to compete with) is very reasonably priced at well under a quid now. 96.9 at mine

The GpA Impreza I that spannered on during the recent Jim Clark rally was expecting to use 400-500 litres over the space of 3 days, so I'm guessing that this is an area that BP are looking to capitalise on by supplying high spec pump fuel to the motorsport community.
Not necessarily true, but just my take on the BP stuff.

This was posted up today on another forum I use by a member who works for Shell.
The information packs have now arrived and it says,
V-Power is designed to provide higher levels of performance and responsiveness.
V-Power is 99 RON
Uses Friction Modification Technology - the same used by Ferrari F1
Increased levels of detergents for even cleaner engines.
It is not a simply name change, V-Power has been developed to provide higher levels of performance and enhancements in responsiveness to give drivers a better driving experience. Shell works closely with Ferrari F1 to create better fuels for the road.
Over the next few weeks, V-Power key-rings will be delivered to site to give to every customer buying V-Power.
Sites should received a promo pack with posters etc, for site staff to install. Contractors will visit sites over the next 4 weeks to install bigger adverts like banners and pole sign inserts.

If it really is only 99ron IMHO they have wasted their time and money!, Not when tescos 99 is an excellent fuel (in my car) and around here it is still much cheaper than Shells optimax/v whatever....... I think it would be a big mistake for them to offer a new fuel which is less than 100ron, especially when it's gonna cost more money!

I really can't understand why they are only selling 99ron V-Power in the UK when they already make V-Power 100ron for Germany, surely they would have to remake the product in existance to remove 1 ron which to me seems pointless.
Anyway I still use V-Power over here and at least when I come to the UK I will be able to get a reasonable fuel now.

" The Roll Out starts today but not in all areas. It is 99 Ron and you will know which stations have it when they display the V-Power posters. It is not in the North East of England as yet and I will let you know. "
