Just filled up my boss's Volvo D5 thingy at my local shell and noticed this V-Power stuff I picked up a leaflet from the desk it says it is 99RON and it looks like they are mainly marketing it on the fact it was developed with ferrari and uses new low friction stuff which is used in F1 Fuel.
As long as it makes my car run sound I dont really give a monkeys.

all this talking about ron, i thought I'd pop in and say hi
just to add to it, i can't see the point in making just 99ron, especially when 100ron is available on the continent is'nt it false economy to develop a different fuel to the rest of europe and only change it by .4ron? must be something in the chemistry of it

Filled up with v-power today, and my normally silent ****-link is a little more lively than usual- only a little, but just noticeable.
Usual fuel of late is Tesco 99 plus one bottle of CVL, and I added a bottle of CVL to the V-Power, so it's a fairly straight comparison as far as I can tel...

I think this is inaccurate. I only buy fuel from the Redheugh Shell. 3+ weeks ago my KL and PFC went quiet. You may remember I map my car to the edge....
I have been running upto 1.5bar since with 4 DEGREES of EXTRA advance than I mapped for on optimax + 1ml/L NF Race on the impreza, without det! The Skyline takes timing I worry about (having learnt the trade on EJ20s). MBT is not far away I think.

can i ask a question and be open to usefull answers:a lot of people are talking about putting high octane fuel in their car and it improving performance:ie 98 ron instead of 97/95 ron:but does a higher octane rating simply mean that the fuel has a higher resistance to self detonation(knock) meaning good news for performance engines:and has actually no bearing on a cars performancepen to answers as im interested in knowing the correct solution:cheers.

Higher resistance to knock is one advantage. But your new "high octane" fuel may burn faster than your old fuel, therefore requiring less advance to achieve the same advantage.

Simon : Not utter bull **** and completely accurate at the time I posted and as I stated. I find your tone offensive. See the first post which opened this thread.
To be completely accurate I should have said not available at all NE England Shell Garages as at 23 August. Only rely on it being V Power when you see the signs changed.
BTW Redheugh did not have v Power three weeks ago. Not according to Shell and as it is a Shell station I think they should know.
V-Power was not available here until Wednesday or Thursday although it was available at some sites earlier than others.
The point of my post was that not everyone should rely on V Power being in the pumps until the signs were changed.

I've used the 100 RON V-Power on the continent (and the 98 RON V-Power in France/Belgium) so I'm waiting for my first tank of the new UK stuff tomorrow to see if it's any dicernable differnce.
The UK fuel is produced in the UK for the UK customer, so it's NOT exactly the same as the stuff in europe, which differs depending on where you are and which refinery supplies it anyway.
If you remember back to the Optimax roll out, it started from just one refinery and gradually spread as all the UK refineries swapped to it, so I suspect that there has been the same roll out here, with some places getting it before the name changed on the pump and some after.
The 100 RON was certainly a lot smoother at lower revs than Optimax or V-Power 98 so hoping for something in between.
Unfortuantely the new 'V power card' can still only be used in the UK, despite the name changing.

LOL all this fuss about Shell - a dedicated oil company - managing to catch up with what Tescos have been doing for months. At least 99 is better than 98 though. I'll try it, just so I can't be accused of being one sided.
People are saying 'why is V-Power only 99?' The answer: because until another firm comes up with anything higher octane, they've no reason to bother with 100 like in Germany. This puts them back on top with people who like branded petrol but have found it increasingly hard to justify paying more money than Tescos 99 for less octane. Now we might all be ripped off an extra 6p a litre but at least we're getting 'V-Power'... you think Shell didn't know that people had stopped buying Optimax? They knew. I had a letter from them drawing my attention to the fact that I'd stopped, according to my Optimax club statements. Not surprising as I used to buy 3000 litres a year off them and I suddenly didn't buy a single litre off them once Tescos got their 99 out.

Only Tesco's fuel is basically SUL with a dose of ethanol. Shell is still a pukka petrol fuel, and will, I am sure, give smoother running, better throttle response and better fuel economy.
I would seriously consider switching back to shell, but pay with cash and don't use your shell card!
