All Evo IV's suffer from a badly designed crank thrust bearing.
Over time the pressure from the clutch pressure plate creates wear on this bearing, add to this an uprated heavy clutch and the problem advances quicker.
In the end the crank had over 3mm end float on the original engine which meant the bottom end bearing seats where worn beyond repair.
So a warning to all people thinking of buying an Evo IV, if it has had a new clutch put in it may have been done to hide the problem.
The Evo V engine onwards had the bearing problem designed out, the V also got a larger turbo compressor housing/ larger injectors/ different cam profiles.
So that is why I have had to spend the best part of 3K on the new engine and parts.
And lastly I'm not interested in any other car apart from a Subaru as a part ex or swap, sorry.
