Got sent this today from Shell in response to a question about whether V-Power was happening

Dear Mr. Neill,

Thank you for your email regarding a new fuel from Shell. My apologies for the delay in getting back to you.

I can confirm that Shell has just launched a new fuel, V-Power, which replaces Optimax. The RON rating of V-Power is 99, and it is available all of the sites where Optimax was previously available, approximately 90% of the Shell network. As well as an increased level of detergent additives to keep your engine clean it contains exactly the same Friction Modification Technology we developed for use by the Ferrari Formula 1 team, to improve the responsiveness of your engine.

If your car previously ran on Optimax, it will need no modification to benefit from Shell V-Power fuel, which will typically be priced between 1 and 2 pence per litre higher than Shell Optimax.

Once again, thank you for your enquiry.

Kind regards,

Richard Priestley

is it really worth more money when it is only 0.4 of a ron more??

optimax 98.6
v power 99

??? just seams like a renaming of the optimax to me and a rounding up of the ron

Shell are just re branding in line with the rest of Europe, just like Marathons were Snickers in Europe and they are here now.

inital experiences seem to be that although RON rating is only fractionally increased, burn rate and maybe calorific values seem to be different too, which adds to the experience!
