Like I said - I will be lubricating my engine with what SUBARU recommend

Some of the facts are, if you put your car on the track, you will more than likely see that a semi-synthetic oil will start to lose out at about 105'c(take Magnatec for example)
If you take a Fully sythetic oil,an ester based one and they will be happy running at 125-130degc all day long, without shearing and dropping out of grade (Motul or one of the Silkolene Pros)
So there are good reasons to buy a Fully synthetic oil if you rag your car on track,or if you wish, you can stick the cheap **** in and dont rev you car past 3000rpm ever, like pslewis.
you get what you pay for simple.

In my honest opinion, all it boils down to is COST. Like I said before, if we were all millionaires we'd be putting the best oil possible in our cars, and thats usually the most expensive, hence Millers/Silkolene etc. Even if were not millionaires, some of us who havent a massive budget on everything still use the best quality stuff we can, even if it dents our pocket.
Even if you pay a maximum of 50 pounds for 5 litres every 6 to 12k, its hardly breaking the bank now is it ?
Not for me anyway, it'll take me 12 months to drive 6k.
Suppose you can look at it this way, 50 quid a year in oil changes, thats 4.16 per month or 1.04 a week, including oil filter and sump plug washer.
Even if you do 2 changes a year, its still only pennies in perspective for giving your car the BEST possible oil on the market.
It makes sense Pete don't it ? ( not having a go at your good self Pete )

Orr come on mate, I agree with what you say about the oil, but Pete is entilted to his opinion as is me, you and everyone else.
Surely you cant kick him in the back for it, I dont in particular agree with Pete's opinion on the oil, but Pete has his own opinion and thinks its viable, and I aint a problem with that what so ever.
This is just one of those agree to disagree subjects I think
Chill guys

As your argument for using expensive Oil is because maybe Subaru do in their Rally cars .............. but then SUBARU recommend a cheaper Oil for the cars they sell ......
You DO think your car is a Rally car, don't you???????

Knock links are a waste of time even if they are going to save your engine.
There will always be the "**** oil change" and any one who spends £1800 to get their engine rebuilt ,when he can do it for about £400 is a nutter, when he has been proven wrong on nearly all or these subjects befor,(no i wont give you evedence pete use the search button)

More on fully sythetic oil for those who want to learn more.
Synthetic motor oil costs quite a bit more than conventional oil or conventional/synthetic blends. This is because synthetic oil costs more to make. It is developed from chemical compounds called polyalphaolefins, abbreviated PAO. Its entire structure is different, making synthetic motor oil far cleaner and more stable than conventional motor oil. It is able to maintain proper viscosity, or flow, in most temperatures and under most demands.
Synthetic blends combine some of the properties of both of the other types of motor oil. Manufacturers are able to offer some of the benefits of synthetic oil while keeping the cost closer to the price range of conventional oil. Synthetic blends are not derived from the same substances as full synthetics. A synthetic blend is essentially a conventional motor oil with high performance elements added to help it burn cleaner and withstand greater temperatures.

From The CASTROL Website ................
"Do I have to use the most expensive brand of oil?
Certainly not.
The important thing is to use the right oil for your car.
There are many specifications and standards that define oil quality and each of these was defined to meet a special requirement.
It is important to use the grade and specification of oil recommended by the manufacturer of your car.
Consult your owner's handbook for details.
Conventional motor oil will give you excellent protection.
Synthetic oil offers the ultimate in engine protection.
If you are seeking added protection for your engine, you might want to request an upgrade to synthetic motor oil when you have your oil changed, but you will pay a premium.
A semi-synthetic product will offer added protection but at a lower cost than a full-synthetic oil change.
Once you know your options, you will be better able to decide what is best for your car"
ie. DO WHAT SUBARU SAYS!! .... or waste your money!!

Pete, dont mean to open a can of worms, but Magnatec I found was ****e.
Over priced waste of money, my old saph ran better on Joe's auto's recycled crap than magnatec.
I thought the oil temp and pressure gauge's were faulty when I put the magnatec in, honestly it was utter rubbish.
Unfortunately I cannot agree with what Castrol say, maybe it just wasnt good in the saph and a one off. But ive never bought it again.

Huh ?
"synthetic oil offers the ultimate in engine protection".
Isn't it worth spending another £20 every 6 months if this is the case ?
Doesn't seem much of a waste of money.
