STI vs WRX for modding though, the STI just has the better box and engine out the wrapper, if your replacing all its not worth the premium i suppose. Plus you get driving lamps with the WRX
Anyway pic of mine

Here's mine.
YES it does have the STI carbon effect reflectors.........do I care. NO. It has a replica STI6 spoiler which will be replace soon once the ***** who painted it pulled there fingers out there ****.........but again do I car......NO.
It's a WRX.......and to be honest I'm happy with it. It's what you want out of a car that counts. I've never been one with keeping up with the Jones because life is too short. Enjoy your ride.
I've added the odd little bits here and there. Again personel preference.
TEK3 MAP 260.2 BHP / 265.6 lbft
Vortex Afterburner System
Prodrive Sports CAT (Yes I like to be legal)
STI AIR FILTER (Oh how could I)
WR Sport Upper and Lower grilles
Fog lamp covers
Mudflaps
And one random women
I would like to upgrade to the prodrive headlamps but to be honest I cannot justify spending Subaru prices on a set of headlamps on a WRX. But honestly I am looking at getting them soon.

Why post on a thread like this saying why have people made their WRX's to look like STi's? We've all customised our cars to our own individual tastes and if that means putting STi spoilers or whatever on then so be it.Does it also mean that cos I previously had a UK300 rear spoiler (And front lip spoiler) on mine that I was trying to mimic a UK300?
I suppose it's a bit like us criticising you for your contribution to the Scoobynet 'community' isn't it?? 50 odd posts since April 04.Wow that's some going and no doubt they're all 'valuable' ones like the ones you've posted above!!!!

For a long time I regretted buying an STI over a WRX. I had to buy it bind as there was a waiting list and it wasn't available to try.
I have found the running cost considerbly higher than my 99 turbo that I had before, I also put WRX suspension on it for the first 12 months as my wife was pregnent and said that the ride was just tooo uncomfortable. You also have to use super unleaded whereas you can use standard unleaded on a WRX. I also think that I would have probably lost less money on a WRX that I have on my STI.
(In total, I paid £26k + 2k ppp + £500.00 suspension. I have recently agreed to p/x it for £11k. It only has 24,500 miles on the clock and 4.5 years old.)
I also brought the non Prodrive version as I didn't like the big rear spoiler, etc, etc.
Saying that, as I said earlier. I have just brought a 2006 sti in Grey. I really seriously considered getting a Spec D but it was just a bit too expensive.

As Rich has said,STi's weren't available to buy as UK cars when some of us bought our motors.Anyway,I don't see why we have to explain ourselves to Bobsrus
im not asking for you to explain yourself, im just wondering why someone would buy a wrx and then stick the sti stuff on it, everyone mods there cars and thats fine by me.
why you have to start making it a personal thing though by saying ive only posted 55 times (and all crap) is fack all to do with it is it.

Nick, how's it going mate?
I see you've still got the WRX. I must admit, I really can't see the point of chopping it in for a new sti - You'll be paying £1000's extra for a car that at best is going to be slightly down on power and possbly looks also. Personally, I'm not a big fan of the new STI's, I won't be buying a new subaru until they release something a bit more radical - although the introduction of the 2.5 is a nice start. I really wish I'd never sold my old wrx - I came very very close to buying it back. If I were you I'd stick with the wrx or go for something completely different - like a nice classic RA
bobsru - As to why do people mod wrx's to look like sti's there's 100's of reasons but why do you care? I personally couldn't afford an STI when I bought my wrx. Over the years I started to earn some more money and started adding a few bits here and there. It would have cost me the best part of 7-8K to upgrade to an STI which I wasn't prepared to do so I modded the wrx in stages till eventually it had better performance (and looks IMHO) to an STI. Can't resist a cheekypicture of the old girl
To the original poster, how much will it cost to upgrade to an STI and how much will it cost to mod the wrx to a level that you're happy with? Also bear in mind that a standard or PPP'd STI will probably be easier to sell later on than an extensively modified WRX.
To copy a phrase I read a few days ago, my 0.02 cents deposited
