before you use the rubbing compound

get some 1200 gritt wet and dry paper and wetsand the paintwork (when the paint is dry!)

and then use the rubbing compound afterwards

it has been laquered , do you mean to rub it down after the lacquer?

nooo

wetsand the laquer before you use the rubbing compound to take the orange peel out, other wise you will be rubbing all day, and you will wear your fingers out

i had to wet sand the whole bloody car when i did mine and it took ages

i used a hairdryer, i nearly got a saggy bit but i managed to push it up with a bit of air

i must learn the right terminology for this paint malarky

i noticed that the finish looked slightyl pitted when i had finished..........advise will be taken

you are going to want a ride in it now arent you?

well if the offers there



the "pitted" bits are "orange peel"
bit like an orange

basically you use the 1200 gritt with water to sand them down smooth, and then use the compound to buff it back up. best to have plenty lacquer on for this part other wise if the lacquer layer is to thin, you end up sanding through!

i might add more laquer tomrrow. the moths were visiting so i wanted to finish up before they stuck to it

i havnt seen it in the daylight yet

i couldnt sleep so i got up early to have a look in the daylight as it was dark when i finished last night. i cant see where the the old and new starts. infact the finish is better than when the spoiler was professionally sprayed and i havnt used the rubbing compound yet

this is where the work took place, my mini spray bay on my drive...


and this is the nearly finished article in the daylight...







i forgot to cover my mesh
