Another case in point, burglar gets off with a community order:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/g...re/5346850.stm

But to be fair the woman who hit him over the head with a pan repeatedly wasn't banged up either, infact the judge said:

Judge Tabor told El-Hamady during his last hearing that many people would have approved of her no-nonsense approach to him.
"I suspect many right-thinking members of the public regret she didn't hit you harder."

Which seems fair enough

The story you are referring to is here

Yes it does pay. A friend of mine is in the police. A recent case was an alarm went off at a business premises one night. He was single crewed but nearby when he was notified. He went to the premises to find a door kicked in and noises coming from inside. He was told backup was on the way, so went in and was confronted by 2 burglars. He confronted one who then tried to assault him, and in the ensuing scuffle, my mate received some bruising and a cut lip but arrested the guy. It went to court and the criminal received £50 for resisting arrest and a community order for the burglary(I think concurrent with another one). Needless to say he had previous.

My mate pointed out that you get more for littering these days, so yes, crime does pay

think the police realy need to look at there policies and pick up the law book again and stop harasing people drivin to do things because the police have done bugger all, perhaps if they stopped the problem in the first place then the situation would never happen, they keep saying prevention is better than punishment, so GOD DAMN PROOVE IT AND PRATICE WHAT YOU PREACH!!!!!

Each police force now have budgets and us fully legal drivers are a nice steady source of income for them. If 100 % of speed related revenue was pumped into public transport rather than to the force the police would soon back off.

I agree - me included on a regular basis.

But I accept the fact that if I do speed, then I take a chance. We have all passed the driving test and more-or-less agreed to stick to the laws of the road.

I think some people are in too much of a hurry on roads and often leave to little time for journeys. If they know there is a stretch of road that is down to 30mph then add a little more time to your journey. Or travel that little bit faster, get there sooner, but accept the fact that you might get caught speeding.

fair comment, but the whole pointis that there so obssessed with stopping people doing it, which 99% causes no problems, that they have forgotten what true crimes are, such as car theft, burglury etc etc

The majority is done now by static cameras

The only ones that can pull you for speeding are the traffic cars, which make up only a small proportion of the police. Crimes are dealt with by emergency response teams, CID and local beats.

Stopping cars will always be part of the job as the majority of criminals use cars for their criminal purposes

yeah maybe, but how can you justify the expence? the camera's cost around £20,000 each at least, two camera's equals one cops salary, there always moaning about they don't have enough funding yet they spend millions on a petty crime such as speeding

does crime pay? I watched Fun with Dick and Jane last night, worth watching if you want to know if it pays or not.

End of the day it depends on the sort of person you are, could you live with yourself knowing youve stolen some kids christmas presents on christmas eve etc?

no, just reduce the number of police hangning around looking to pull people get em out responding to crimes and investigating those that need to be.

although tbh i think doing this is a watse of time as well untill sentancng is sorted out, a slap on the wrist to a multiple offender does nothing

No i'd scrap scameras unless opposite schools or genuine black spots - normally they are sited to gain the most revenue - even my traffic cop buddy agrees to that. i would then get the traffic police to forget about pulling people for straying over the limit and concentrate on the uninsured/nicked/un-taxed - k**b heads who drive like tw*ts in a built up areas.

The trouble is where speed cameras have been introduced and people are slowing down, they are seeing a drop in revenue and so are decreasing the speed limits to the point where people are prepared to exceed them again.

40mph on a good dual carriage way is just plain unrealistic, especially when they had to include a suicide jumper from a bridge on to the road in to the KSI stats to do it

Of course Crime pays - wouldn't be illegal otherwise.
