it's a licence fee you are paying to use a TV to receive broadcasts as I understand it
All very well when it was new technology but a joke now. I'm sure at one point caveman charged for the use of a stone axe but pretty soon it became the way to chop things up. Same for TV IMHO - it's not a privillage any more - its expected!!

Exactly. Don't buy a TV that can receive digital signals, or a satellite / cable setup or a freeview box. When analogue is turned off, you can no longer receive a TV broadcast, hence pay no licence fee. OK you can't watch TV, but you can watch DVDs and play games on the TV and no longer require a licence (to the best of my knowledge).

Auntie provides us now with 4 Entertainment Channels providing the very best in new comedy, dramas and factual programmes. It gives us the best 24 news channel in the world and probably the greatest webpage of any tv company ever packed with news and sports information along with so much more...
Edited to add oooooo and about 30 radio stations including the local ones too....
No adverts in the middle of your favourite shows, no pop ups on their web pages, match of the day puts itv sport coverage to shame and Gabby Logan is a man
To make the license fee fair, it should be measured on how big your telly is
I would pay double this fee if it meant that tv adverts were removable from my viewing time... Saves me watching everything on a delay on Sky+ so I can fast forward them
Agreed,

Difficult one. Here in Spain there is no TV license - which is a good thing

But therefore all the adverts go on for about 20 mins, and right at the worst (read highest viewing figures) moment . If the BBC was funded with adverts then ITV would not have to worry so much about the length of an ad break, and the cycle would carry on until more 10 min ad breaks.

Never thought I'd say it, but perhaps it is a good thing in the name of competition? But then I don't have to pay it.....

my address has been "prioritized for enforcement" on the 26th of this month

i don't watch TV at home to be honest, although the G/F moved in a week or so back and she does, so she said she would pay for the licence.

its been fun getting all the letters for the past year or so, especially how "michelle tunstall" seams to change her job description every friggen month

i just binned them all, although the red borders on them seam to be getting much bigger these past few months

its all a load of **** tbh, i reckon you could probably easy enough do one year of paying, followed by one year of not/gay ****e letters and save yourselves half the cost

i have also heard that buying a black and white licence gets you off there "hitlist" although i don't know anybody that does this, a 50" plasma with the colour controls set all the way down might not work PMSL

You don't actually have to open the door to them and let them in when they call round. It would be perfectly possible to just ignore their letters and when they do call just tell them through the unopened door that you don't have a TV.
If you add some religious **** about the TV being the work of the devil and rant a bit/pretend to be banging your head against the door they'll probably just **** off and leave you alone.

or live in a block of apartments and switch off the doorbell

i read everything on the net regarding the various letters, and it was "fun" to see what level i had progressed to, like a ****e computer game

from what i have read on the internet, this "michelle tunstall" has been regional manager for pretty much every single region in the uk, its laughable, its all made up bull****
