But have you never heard of this thing called income tax.....as well as taxing you on the petrol you are also taxed on what you earn. So you are taxed twice for the same thing.
1. Most countries apply income tax as well as some kind of sales tax (VAT/fuel duty). So most people in this world get taxed twice on purchases.
2. Compared to the rest of Europe, fuel duty in the UK is NOT "obscene" in relative terms. The difference between the major players in Europe (France/Germany/Italy) is minimal. Exceptions in the world are Dubai, USA, etc etc, who have their own agendas for cheap fuel.
