Hmmm, my wife has a large can of mace / tear gas spray mix that fires 30ft on her side of the bed. On my side of the bed I have a 24" machete and a six cell maglite. Plus my four inch lock knife which I wear on my belt in the day.

On the shelf in the wardrobe I have a 500,000 stun gun, 20" long with the top eight inches being charged to prevent it being taken off you. I also have an aluminum bat under the stairs near the front door and a tactical extending truncheon by the back door.

There is a can of mace in the kitchen somewhere......

Oh, and I also have two male rottweilers who are currently eleven months old and weigh 110lbs (same as my wife!!!) , growing to about 140lb (10 stone) by full size.

Oh, I live in Texas, btw...... And I decided to go non-lethal (ish)

I'm considering getting one of these......

You never know when you're going to have to separate some rice kernels from their husks.

I pity anyone foolish enough to break into your place.

After having been half eaten by your dogs, sprayed with mace, hacked with a machete, truncheoned and electrocuted, they would probably rather you had gone the lethal route...

I'm actually in one of the best parts of Houston, but as the saying goes, better to have it and not need it, than need it and not have it! I was very paranoid when I got here, expecting the Wild West, but I have decided against firearms (even though a pump action shotgun can be bought at Walmart for $79!!!! )

In which case it wouldn't really matter....... Home invasion / robberies are very rare as MOST Texans are armed to the teeth (my wife's boss has TWO shotguns in his bedroom, each with a dozen cartridge quick loader in case he misses them the first 20 times, plus half a dozen revolvers and a pistol around the house. The best bit is his REAL weapons are out at his ranch! )

Trouble with pepper spray is that I think it is illegal and could count against you Sara when the PC Plonkers hear in court that you used it. Maybe one of those small round boxes of household pepper with the seals cut so you can get the top off easily and chuck it in the intruder's face would give you a better chance in court and also slow him down enough to give you the opportunity to kick him in the fergibblers at the same time!
