I can only try to imagine trying the english version which would be to eat a dodgy FrankButcher, which would also make me feel ill and collapse... Who is Frank Furter anyway and why did your dad nibble his edibles?

Not that I'm trying to compete or anything, but I got gastroenteritis about 15 years ago. I lost 2 stones over 9 days. I have stretch marks from losing weight so quickly, although I normally tell people I got the "scars" wrestling bears.

Luckily my then place had a sink next to the loo. I was convinced I was either going to eject my entire stomach into the sink or leave my intestines down the loo or both. I even slept in the bath for several nights because I wouldn't be able to get to the loo/sink in time from anyway else in the house.

4 or 5 days after falling ill I could take periodic sips (and I mean sips) of water. These often came up again anyway. It was 2 weeks later before I was on solids again.

Moral of the story? Check sell by dates of pork pies, especially when buying from a convenience store.

Indeed. After 3 days of not being able to keep water down, I went to my GP because I thought you died of thirst after 3 days without water and I was getting a bit worried.

Not quite, even though she did have them. I would've need a rather large safety distance to say anything like that. Around 200 miles would be the minimum safe distance.

I was in some godforsaken hell hole in India about 5 years ago on business. I was travelling with another UK guy but he was of Indian ancestry.

Despite all the warnings about eating and drinking etc, He got very ill one evening. After a few hours of all the pre-mentioned sh1tting and puking I asked the hotel to ring for an ambulance.

The ambulance arrived.......it was a scooter and he was strapped on the back and whisked away to hospital where he stayed quite a while.

When we flew out he was 12 1/2 stone. When he arrived back in the UK 5 weeks later he was just under 9 stone and had spent 4 weeks in hospital where at 1 point they were seriously concerned about his life. Apparently he just hit the 8 stone mark at one point!

Amazing how much weight you can lose in the space of a few weeks. when I had the mumps I was violently sick for days after my face swelled up like mr potato head, and the room felt like it was spinning non stop.
When I got back to work 2 weeks later I weighed myself and I had lost 9kgs in a fortnight lets see the atkins diet beat that one.

I had food poisoning last year that had me bed-ridden for a week with a horrible fever that caused me to bite the inside of my mouth to pieces (ulcers!!!) whilst hallucinating (about the sack man from Batman Begins in my case, which I watched on the BA flight where I contracted the bacteria!!) My body rejected everything, from both ends, within about six hours of eating, and I was basically unable to muster the strength to walk to the bathroom! Now that's food poisoning! Oh, and then the people who fed me the reheated chicken that almost killed me tell me as I didn't save a sample, there is no proof, and sorry, but...........

Another time when I flew to Indonesia, via Sri Lanka and Singpore, I woke up in the airport hotel thinking "Aha, better get to the bathroom"...... I made it to the bathroom, but not the toilet! Tiled floor though, luckily! And a nice thick bathmat!

Wrong - fibre can make it worse.

I had serious IBS for a couple of years - very similar symptoms to what you describe and probably as a result of a lot of travelling all over Africa, Middle East and various other challenging nutritional destinations where, of course, I ate pretty much everything as " i have a cast iron constitution...". I ate loads of fibre to try and get rid of it, but the docs told me stop it and, sure enough, the symptoms receded (but didn't go away completely).

The docs wanted to check me for various things including the Big C, although they were pretty sure it was IBS and so booked me in to have a TV Camera up the jacksy. Before that happens you have to take a clinical laxative to clean you out completely. This stuff is pure unadulterated rocket fuel. I was told not to take it unless I was near a toilet but I thought that they were exaggerating, so the night before, as i was leaving work to go home, I took it. It took me 35 mins to get home on a train and i just made it in time leaving a trail of clothes, bag, coat, etc, all down the hall of my house to the loo where I spent the next two hours holding on to the ceiling and shrieking .

The tsunami of ****e eventually petered out and i crawled (whimpering) to the
sofa where I woke up about an hour later to find that the ever present cramping in my bowels for the previous 2 years had gone completely.

I went in the next day to the docs - still pain free for the camera (which showed nothing) and told him what had happened and he said that it was very common. They don't really know what causes IBS, but one of the theories is that some unfriendly bugs get into your intestine ( for instance when you eat undercooked insects, etc...) and causes all the cramping, but that once they are really flushed out by this lexus of laxative you're suddenly Ok again. Never had any problems since in 6 years. Hopefully the sam ewill happen to you.
