So what, he has a car crash, no posts today yet about innocent victims of other car crashes where they have been mutilated, seriously injured or killed.
Its a shame to hear about this but the end of the day he is a nobody to a high % of people on here as lets face it how many people actually know him personally? very few if any. Do hope he pulls through though for his families sake etc.

Although we don't know him personaly, he is a TV personality, and by that we (the public) know him better than Mr.X who had a car crash Yesterday.
People enjoy watching him on our TV's, he's part of our life, we make a choice to turn on our TV set's and listen/watch what he does/say.

That is why people care about what has happened to him, and wish him a speedy recovery.
As for Mr. X who had a car crash yesterday? Yes your right, I couldn't give a ****.

The point is that if you know someone, its easier to empathise with them, plus we all feel like TG is at risk and we generally (even though we bitch about it sometimes) really enjoy it, he seems a really nice bloke, may well be a **** but I dont know him, I suspect that the former is true.

I get paid to go to work, if I have an accident on the way there does that change anything ?

I sometimes read of hear about accidents and genuinely feel upset even though it is just mr X, the more you know about someone the more you can empathise but even when you dont its possible.

Thats the difference between those with Autism and the rest of us, perhaps you should get checked out, I suspect you are 'An Excellent Driver'.

I enjoy top gear as much as anyone else, but he certainly aint part of my life. You dont turn on to watch him, you watch the show that he happens to be a minor presenter on unless there is something your not telling us

Darkstar66 read my post where I said he gets paid for it. You will notice that I have quoted another post.
I suggest you read that post and then maybe you can understand the context of why I use my words

jaytc2003 - could I suggest that if you have nothing more positive to say that you stop posting on this thread? I think we've got how you feel about it.

That more or less reflects my feelings.

jaytc2003 - You have a right to express your feelings but I (and Chris L) think that they are inappropriate at this time considering the man is critically ill.

I don't think he should have volunteered to do this stunt. He's not even an experienced racing driver. He should have realised that driving a jet powered dragster is not in any way the same as driving a supercar at speed.

I just hope JC didn't bully him into this decision!

According to Sky News...

Top Gear co-presenter James May had been due to drive Vampire but pulled out ahead of the event.

Chris L and Darkstar66, and anyone else if I have offended you. I do hope he gets better and pulls through for his sake and his families, as I wouldnt wish it on anyone. (I did also say this on my first post on this topic) My gripe is I see it is headline news in various papers today, and it makes me angry as the vast majority of the population have not heard of him and there are far more pressing news items that people should know about. This thread has just allowed me to air my views on it and blow off a bit of steam.

More people have heard of him than you think, especially those with kids who watch Brainiac, and besides anything he seems to be a nice chap, something that is sadly lacking in this country these days.

He also has a family to care for, another thing sadly lacking in the UK with all the silly chav families knocking sprogs out all the time, who couldn't give a toss about anything except their benefits.

Stop being such a ****, and have a bit of compassion, a fellow petrolhead has been injured.

Between people like you, and the do-gooders at the other end of the scale, we're doomed.

As for the "he gets paid for it" etc etc comments, we need to persuade more people to push the limits, and continue to do things purely for fun or achievement.

Murray Walker just commented on it on Sky News, and in reaction to all the "ban Top Gear" comments, he sdai the day we stop doing things that are "dangerous" is the day we should all worry about whats happend to human kind

A fair point, but it happens all the time for even more trivial things as long as it involves a celeb. I would say the same thing but not until I knew that he was going to make a full recovery. I wasn't offended by your comments, I just thought they were insensitive at this time and in this thread.

Dreamweaver, I do have compassion, hence I have said I hope he recovers!
What about the other poster who said he didnt give a f*ck about mr x being in an accident, dont see you slating him.
How is giving my opinion being a ****? You need to read with your eyes open and see what I have written. I have not said anything detrimental about Mr Hammond

Jay; youre evidently an attention-seeking ****. Have you seen the joke: "how many BBS members does it take to change a lightbulb?" Read it and try to work out which stereotypical gob****e you are.
