Well if any 'good' has come from this incident, at least the air ambulance will be flying for a few more days. The total pledged now stands at more than 22 grand. Still amazes me that they have to rely on donations to keep flying

Health and Safety Executive officials are on site investigating possible causes of the crash

If you've ever had the misfortune to have worked with these guys then you would know that.

Yep HSE do a very good job and it's not a nice job too do,i have first hand knowledge of this, when Miss Speye's mother slipped at work whilst carrying a rather large knife. The fall resulted in the knife going through her neck resulting in death about 5 mins later, all this happened as miss Speye was watching as she was working with her mam at the time. The HSE did a marvelous job from start to the end of the inquest. So much so i have various qualifications in Health and Saftey i am h+s manager at my place of work and i am qualified to walk into any H+S job anywhere and could also work for the HSE so dont knock them.

There's an article in the Telegraph this morning that makes a heartening read with some very funny comments by James May: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/main...hammond122.xml

"I was chuffed to see him and although he's muttering, he seems much like the irritating little **** I know and love. Even when he can't say much, he seemed to make as much sense as he does when he can talk normally."
I'm sure he wouldn't be making comments like that if there really was cause for concern.
As for 'brain injuries' I had a bad prang myself in the early 90s. Hit an electricity pole and damn near knocked it over. Xmas eve so all the houses connected to it had a cold Xmas dinner the next day ... As well as a broken femur, *probably* broken ribs I had also hit my head very hard ( * ). This, I assume, is the sort of 'brain injury' that the hamster has. Took me months before I could function normally. Speech was a little slurred, was tired a lot but the most frustrating part was not being able to judge time/speed. I could wait to cross the road but had to wait for a very large gap before I would cross as I just couldn't judge anything closer. Just couldn't understand it at the time and, as I said, extremely frustrating.
Hopefully RH will be back on our screens soon but if JM comments above are to be believed then we'll notice no difference ...
Dave
* - actually the most worrying bit was the enormous bruise to my nads and 'old man'. It was 2 weeks or so before there was any 'movement' down there .... Luckily, a full recovery ensued!!!!!

This was the first thing saw on British news when I landed yesterday and still catching up with what happened. When I switched on the tv, there were back drops of him and I thought he'd died (next time I'll not mute it!). Good to hear his condition is improving.

Perhaps NHS car parking charges could pay for it ....???

All the spare cash is spent on 'The war on terror', foreign policy coming back squarely to land on Blairs doorstep, spend billions on defence, invade Iraq and then spend billions more on the threat they have caused, hence no money for stuff like air amubulances.

I would expect the doctors would not know the full extents of the injury until the swelling etc went down. He was a fit young man so a quicker recovery is in his favour.
Brain injuries are always difficult to say what the future will be, being out of intensive care so quick is good news.

BUT
this was taken from a news article.
Whatever the outcome of the investigations, it may be that Top Gear in its current format could be axed if criticism mounts about the show's daredevil stunts.
The series, which attracts over 6 million viewers in Britain as well as millions more abroad, was criticised for being "obsessed with acceleration" by a group of MPs in 1999.
im getting a bit sick of this country, i feel as though im suffocating in cotton wool!!!
next they will be saying 'we better axe F1 and WRC coz there all about acceleration'
bicycle anyone????

I noticed that Sky were criticising the program with its "stunts" and H&S issues.
However I noticed Sky One is advertising some 3rd rate celebrity infested show that has celebrities surfing on top of moving cars, hanging off a car suspended by a crane along with other barmy "stunts" Not to mention Braniac's love for blowing up caravans
Funny how they criticse "stunts" perfromed on another channel rather than their own
And this wasn't even a stunt...it was a record attempt. Idiots.

Anyone see Mike SMith being interviewed on ITV news about it last night?
They asked him if we can justify having programmes like Top Gear on with fast cars and "stunts".
He replied saying it was more dangerous the report they'd just given of their own news reporter Bill Neely in the middle of Afghanistan being shot at - there was no response from the newsreader

I was quite shocked and upset to hear about Hamster - and am pleased to see that the overwhelming opinion of us Scoobynetters has been positive towards him, and hopeful for his recovery.
Re status of Top Gear - I hope they come back bigger and better than before - and it would be in keeping with their spirit to make Hamster do something twice as dangerous - or send him round in a learner car with the Stig...
All the best to Hamster - hope he makes a full and swift recovery - I ABSOLUTELY love Top Gear and hope it continues for many years to come - despite a recent article I read that Top Gear probably only has another couple of seasons in it before the producers think it will become stale.

Yes I caught that. Noticed that Mike Smith had aged a lot but still, he did shut the presenter up right and proper so well done that man. Kudos to Bill Neeley and those troops even if they shouldn't be there (and I'm not trying to hijack this thread).
