Richard Hammond seriously ill following a car crash (not a wind up)

Just heard about this on ITV's 10.30 news thing.
One of the few people on TV that I genuinely like watching (except for the brief period that he spent in that hopeless Mel Gedroichhh's company. That was painful viewing). Hope he pulls through this.
Best wishes, chap.

As posted on the thread in NSR..

'I don't know quite what happened but the parachute deployed, there was quite a lot of smoke and the car veered off to the right onto the grass. It turned over a couple of times.
'The car was upside down. The roll cage had dug in and Richard was upside down with his head down into the soil. We opened his visor and fortunately he was still breathing.
'The ambulance came across and the paramedic and his partner managed, with help from the film crew, to right the car.'
He said Hammond was placed on a stretcher board and airlifted to hospital. Last night he was in a critical condition.

Heard about this via text message, as my uncle flew the ambulance. Thought it was a wind up till it was on News24.
Just as I left a motoring journo was about to tell BBC what could cause the crash. At that speed, pretty much anything! It was a windy day in York yesterday, I don't know if cross winds affect parachutes.

As suggested on Pistonheads, how about a donation to the Yorkshire Air Ambulance, which airlifted him to hospital?

Really bad news
Very best wishes go out to his family.... and can only hope for a full and speedy recovery.
I wonder if there is anyway we can setup a paypal account or similar to accept donations from which a SN "get well soon" message could be sent with any remainder going as an air ambulance donation....... anyone know how this could be set up

As I said before, best wishes to the little fella, and to his wife and kids.

Would just like to add my wishes for a speedy recovery and also to his family who must no doubt also be going through a very tough time right now.
I couldn't believe the news when I heard it last night, was absolutely stunned
So good to hear so many nice things about the bloke, who is obviously one of TVs good guys, from people who have and have not met him.
Great idea for the donation to the air ambulance and the card btw.
