The reality of roadside bombs in some sun blasted desert hell hole not quite what they'd envisaged is it?
I changed my mind during the course of this thread. Leave them out there and give them a taste of reality.

It's like all the doctors and nurses resigning because they get attacked by drunks after the pubs close......
So where somebody has voted for them to stay it will be due to their belief that it will serve a purpose, possibly even restoring order to those ****holes.... rather than "yeah this is funny let's keep them out there!"
And at the end of the day they signed up to do it..........

Who is to say though that the soldiers dont want to be there???
I have spoken to a few guys who are out there, and it's nothing like as bad as people over here (who have never spend a minute in the army) make out.
Would be very interested to get the view of someone who has actually experienced being out there

They shouldn't be there in the first place. We are not the world's policeman. Bring them back, wait for Labour to lose the next election, and let's have a thorough overhaul of our foreign policy.

As a matter of interest, for those that say they should stay until the job is done, at what point do you decide the job can't be done. If we've lost a couple of million soldiers (in to drafting by this stage) and we're still there in 20 years time, do we keep sending more people out there?

On the other hand, if you're constantly getting shot at and having motar shells landing just outside your base and dodging RPG's when out on patrol then you might have another opinion.
I don't want to be shot at/have shells aimed at me etc.....so i didn't join the forces. Common sense really

ohh and FWIW when I was a kid I always thought if I joined the army it'd be because I want to fight for my country and experience exhilirating action like you'd expect of a soldier, off course I grew up and decided I wanted to keep my body parts in tact so didnt join. Any person in the army stationed out there and moaning only have themselves to blame IMO.

Bollocks to that, that is biased, that member of the family signed up for the army knowing full well at some point their training may be called upon. You could have talked them out of joining the army in the first place. They have a job to do, make them get on with it.
My point was its very easy for people that have no connection to the situation to just say "yeah keep 'em there", the whole they signed up so stuff 'em, lets have some more wooden boxes with flags draped over them and ha-ha its their own fault attitude sums this place up really.

So nobody is prepared to put a time limit on how long we give it to complete the job, you're quite happy for us to stay there indefinately, even if that's for the next 50 years or more?
