Quite a lot of interference in those clips, but it doesn't sound good.

Maybe have a word with David at Api his advice is free!

Very sad thread to read Chocolate_Obrian m8, you seem like one of the good guys.

My advice would be to delete these threads just in case. Then find Your insurance document and double check it covers Fire and Theft, then double check it again. If it doesn't phone your insurance company and upgrade it today then do the following in about a month.

Drive the car 10 or 15 miles away from your house, somewhere secluded and off the main road. Go home, report it stolen and then return to the car after about 8 hours. Have a m8 waiting in his car because you probably won't want to watch your pride and joy go up in flames.
You may not get full asking price obviously from your ins company but at this point in time i'd be thinking of the best way of getting as much £££ back as possible.
Replacing an engine is an option but if like me this would be a great deal of hassle as well as a massive learning experience, and the labour costs on someone else doing it is going to be sky high.

You certainly don't sound like your enough of a ******* to try and convince someone to buy it and hope they don't ask about "that noise", which to me is a far worse act that insurance theft.

Let me state this is not something i've ever done in the past, nor do i advocate such a crime, but lets face it if we were in chocolates boots right now the same would be running through your head.

Hmm,the insurance job is a dodgy one, would he hot wire it or leave the keys in it ?

i thought about this when the missus rolled my sport, but i made about £1600 in parts from it, so only lost about £2k,what if it goes wrong on the insurance front ?

I'd take a screwdriver and a hammer and just batter the ignition before leaving it. I forgot to say take out any audio/alarm equipment and basically strip the car of anything worth a few £££ IE decat pipes etc and replace with originals.

Say the car is worth £4k in mint condition with extra's etc. I'm sure after excess he could expect £2.5-3k in return from his insurance, whereas the time and hassle of changing engines will probably be just as long as the cheque would take. Also you need to know 100% for definate the engine you would be putting in has been well looked after.

He fecthed it here...noise from bottom end ,crank pully goosed, header tank bodged, oil leak, consistent with a high mileage thrashed and not maintained engine.
There are other issues with the car also..

Sorry to confirm your suspicions Andy..

Regards claiming for the car ,for reasons pointed out to Andy this is not an option
Firstly I disagree with it .
Is illegal
HE is paying a fortune in insurance already,

Most importantly he will not get paid out..I have seen the car and for reasons
I will not go into I can confirm as soon as the wreckage is recovered they will throw any claim out.Trust me

But surely anything like mod's that have been added externally can be removed, not only for insurance purposes but for resale/refitting. In all my years i've never heard of a car being checked internally for modifications.

But i don't know much about his car so i take your word for it .

If you were being serious then pretending that it was stolen and burning it probably isnt a good idea and maybe should have been a PM instead.

Please be very wary of any illegal options that have been suggested they very rarely work and your current probs suggest you would not be one of the lucky ones. Reading between the lines a reputable expert has viewed this car and would go with his recommendation.

appreciate all the input on this guys. got a stinging hangover now. double tequila and coke - sure fire sorrow drowner.

jasemac, your a good guy and i appreciate all the help you gave me yesterday, free of charge il add too. genuine guy, thankyou.

i suppose i could strip the car and basically take it to pieces and sell it, but i have no where to store anything due to lack of garage on driveway. im not that much of a **** to try sell the car on as fine, so i wont be advertising on here with it or anywhere else.

im putting it down to a bad experience and driving her the same as before, if shes gonna die, shes gonna die, but i will enjoy her until then.

dunno what im gonna do about a car though, unless i can maybe sell the exhaust/alarm/stereo which are all aftermarket jobbies. couple hundred quid banger will do.

again chaps, appreciate all your input, really is some good guys on here, i try be one of them with a cheeky side to it, but this time ive been bitten in the **** and im gonna find the address of the guy who sold me this pile of **** and have suggestive words with him

nah i spoke about it but the engine is really what hes interested in and thats fooked... bit of a no goer. regarding buying another scoob, eventually i will, but im £8.5k in debt for writing off my first one and probably loosing £3-4k on this one so the bank loan is mounting up now. and the mrs just lost her job in an estate agents yesterday which is upsetting too. dunno how im gonna pay the bills either never mind run a car too.

just having a quick mooch on autotrader, and there are a few decent looking subarus on there round the £4k mark for 96-99 facelift classics. is that the general price for them now, or is it again too good to be true at that price?

if i did get another scoob, id want one with less than 100,000 miles, decent service history, not chavved up etc, but i though you would pay £5-6grand for these?

andy

(im trying to cheer myself up-at least i have my unblemished licence still)

If you really are looking you can have one of mine, std. Terzo full history not trashed/raced rallied etc. 4k would buy it. UK car so insurance friendlier and much money spent keeping it good.

You can get a real nice scoob for between 4-5k now. I wouldnt be too bothered if it has done 100k miles as it should last alot longer if looked after.
Mine is on 110k and still runs sweet

ive had a look around and have found the rough name and address of who sold me the car thats totally fooked. plus a reciept for it too which again was shabby. is there a way of finding out his exact address from a name etc but no post code. or do you do it via the dvla? any light shed on this and when i find him whoever helps the most will get a free dig in the face to the barsteward...

andy

ignore the last piece... i found the V5C and the cunts name and full postal address is on it. happy days, and a suggestive selection of words are in order...

apologies for the nasty language mods...

Thing is tho, you bought it, so you cant really blame the seller as such, you had all the opportunites to drive it, listen to it, judge it etc.

But hey,if it makes you feel better and all that, how long have you owned it now, if its more than say, 3 weeks, can you imagine if u sold something and 6 mths later the buyer came knocking saying it was dud ?!?!

Good luck tho and all that.........

point taken but as jason said the engine is the east of my worries. im not going any further than that on a public forum.

at best i will put it down to a bad experience. oh and a £3-4k loss unless i can sell some bits off it. ive had a couple of interested parties but i would need to see them face to face to explain what is wrong with the car. as said though im not placing it for sale on here.

bit weird but my insurance now is around the £2250 mark for this car, but if i wanna insure a uk car, say 97 p-reg value £4k it will cost me around £2500 a year? doesnt make sence, wrx more powerful, worth less though i guess due to age.
