i have had this twice before with previous cars, and i find the best course of action is to calmly walk over to the boot, open it, pull out a big fukcen hammer and swing like **** while running after them.
i did get a few bricks to the head with the last attempt but i soon sorted that out a few weeks later once i had the "info" i needed.

IIRC you have to locate your alarms keypad and then hold down a button for a number of seconds, I don't recall the exact instructions though, sorry! It may be called autolock, or something similar rather than anti hijack though.
Sigma Sam on here will know.

i wouldn't hand them over straight away. i have no trained fighting skills and i normally try to avoid them. but tend to be a little dirty if it looks like it's going to go to it.
i'd like to think that i'd throw the keys at them, while one scrambles to catch them, kick him hard in the nuts then stamp sideways on the other blokes knee. thus leaving them both on the floor while i pick up my keys and then drive off like i'd stole it. go into hiding for the next 3 years while they forget what i look like and sell the car in the mean time as it's not worth the hassle of the gang that will probably come looking for me.
in reality i'd probably ask them their question again, realise that they had said what i thought they had and hand over the keys.

I don't think you can really know how you'd react unless it happened to you, and it's probably a split second judgment call at that time as to which way you go based on the circumstances you are in at that time. There would be a lot of factors that would potentially influence your decision.
Personally I am only interested in the wellbeing of myself and my family and I don't think that is worth risking for the car so I'd give them the keys unless I felt certain I could fend them off without getting hurt very much. If I did though I'd tell them to make sure they burned it out or wrote it off when they'd finished with it because I wouldn't want it back.
Yes, it's my car, I've spent money on it and I've spent time doing stuff to it just like everyone else, but the bottom line is there are loads of cars so there will be another one. There's only one of me and one of my family so if it comes to the crunch the car will lose every time.
The insurance may not pay you absolutely everything if you have to claim for the cost of a replacement but then they probably won't pay everything if you get it back with worn out tyres, brakes, clutch and an engine that's been over-revved. Speedkings right, but then life's a bitch. I'm self employed so would rather lose a bit on the insurance payout than potentially jeopardise my ability to work.

I don't think I could live with myself if I didn't resist.
To simply hand something over goes against every nerve in my body. My view is that the thieving little ******* are probably banking on the fact that you'll meekly hand the keys over. If you start giving them some serious ****, they might just leg it. Is it worth the hassle to them? They're looking for a quick fix, and if you cause them trouble they'll go and find someone else.
If I get stabbed, then at least I got hurt trying. Not to try is giving up. Crime would be on the decrease if more of us fought back. Even the serious crims would think twice if they thought they might get a bit of a slapping.
On the other hand, my sis was mugged by someone with a handgun. She did the right thing and didn't resist. I think I could have been shot.
I just hope I don't have to find out whether it's fight or flight.

A friend was the victim of an attempted hijacking in London. He fought off two kids in their late teens/early twenties. I wouldn't have put money on him doing that, he's not an agressive person, though he is tall and gangly.
A few weeks later another guy in London resisted a hijacking and got stabbed for his troubles. He died. What would I do? Buggered if I know. I hate the thought of someone walking off with my car keys, but if things happen very quickly I don't know how I'd react.

I'm 24 and have a shaved head, I get the impression that the people who are likely to rob us, consider me to be one of their own.
I do look scallyish no matter how nice my suit is.
I can't see this happening to me, but if it did I like to think I'm make the first move and make sure it hurt

It would depend whether I thought a) they were tooled up and b) if they weren't, could I deck the biggest one with one punch.
I won't go into too many details but I once got 'confronted' by three lads in the street, wanting trouble. I tried to talk my way out of the situation but it was obvious they were spoiling for a rumble.
So at the first opportunity I lamped the biggest fella with everything I had and knocked him sparko. The other two **** themselves at the site of him going down like a sack of spuds and ran off. Job done.
If however I thought the potential car jackers were carrying, I'd run off with keys safely stored in my pocket.

I think all this armchair bravado is one thing but in reality you are all mostly honest decent hard working people -these people are NOT the same as you or I - they are prepared to INJURE, MAIM perhaps even KILL to have what they want. In the natural world they would be some kind of feral animal - jackal, wolf, vulture or maurading shark - only at a superficial level do they belong in our society. They are incapable of empathy to other human beings. These people are not simply 'car thieves' - nicholas cage was a car thief in that awful movie - these people are psycopaths, potential murderers evertime they going into battle - they do not care about the human cost or social consequence of their actions. If everyone was like them we would be living in a 'mad max' world scenario where big knife, gun and chainsaw battles were say happening a few times a day in most high streets, in most supermarkets or public areas. The thousands of years of civilised society we have painfully built would begin to collapse.
These people need good old fashioned electro behavioural correction therapy to make them 'smiley happy people' - cruel perhaps but it would actually make them far happier too... - and I'M NOT KIDDING.

I had an attempted car jacking on me a couple of years ago now, two lads one pretty big. I was getting in my car after opening the gate at work. Getting back in my car and I hear running footsteps and have two lads trying to pull my door open, when they realise im not letting go (the door was ajar as I couldnt get it closed in time) the big one starts punching me in the head, that just made me more determined not to give up. Anyway by this time the gate had opened enough for me to get through so I managed to get the car in gear and the handbrake off, I got the car moving but the big one tried to get the keys and managed to turn them back a click. I rolled through the gate and they came running but I had got the door shut, locked and the car running again so they fled.
This happened in Liverpool - that evening I think it was either three or four ATM's where done in Liverpool. They had been using high powered saloons to get away - IIRC I think an Audi and a BMW where 2 of the cars used, perhaps they where after mine for this?
For some reason when they where trying to get in the car they didnt open any of the other doors (four door Impreza) so I can only presume they were either to dim to realise they could of done this or they didnt want to get in the car unless I was out of it incase I took them for a drive into work and introduce them to some colleages
Basically I dont think you know how you will react until it happens, looking back at the cctv I appear to be throwing a few punches back but I have no recollection of this? When I think back about it - the sensible thing to do would be to get out and let them have it but on the other hand if I had got out would they have tried to attack me further? All I know that if it happens again I would do the same, unless of course I felt in to much danger as they had a weapon.
I use a shed for work now, probably the best thing I have done as I am no worse off but have a banger if I am going to any dodgy areas or the tip

i'd give them the keys happily in a second. i'd rather let them take my car than risk leaving my son without a dad. i'd hope that karma exists and that something really bad happens to them afterwards though
i do however have the benefit of being 6"2, 17 stone, shaved head and covered in tattoos which up until now has always helped..............

I have not read all the replys on this post, but about 5 years ago i had a friend who was stabbed to death with a screwdriver after he ran out to confront car thieves. They were not after his Scooby as it was secure, it was a cheaper car of his. I would always put up a fight but just remember my friend left a wife and two kids.

I would like to say put up a fight, however I am man enough to admit being a wimp. I would probably ask them if they wanted some cash for petrol (and ask them to use Optimax!!!)
