Saw a harrier hovering 200ft in front of me at navy days although it doesnt sound as good as the eurofighter. The afterburners on that sound awesome.

Yes he did punch out. Have a look here YouTube - Crash de Mig-29

Just as the 27 goes behind the transport, you can see the rocket motor under his seat fire him out. Fair play to him he left it to the last moment before ejecting. If I remember right, he had an engine flame out on him, that didnt allow him to recover from the dive.

Wasn't he saved by the expanding gases from the explosion of the plane hitting the ground filling the parachute? Otherwise he was so close to the ground that there wouldn't have been time for the chute to slow him sufficiently.

I think most modern ejector systems work from zero feet.

Correct- ejector seats have been working from 0 ft for some time. Have a 3 stage rocket (at least used to) instead of 1 so they dont break your back.

Remember, he was in a Russian ejector seat, not a Martin Baker (is that right).

OK. I haven't seen the video referred to above. However, the MiG 29 or Sukhoi Su 31?? (I forget the designation) that crashed at Farnborough a while back was on a Channel 4 program, (was it called Anatomy of Disaster - I think it was the same programme that had Senna's crash on it). It said than the blast blew the chute open. I can't remember why the seat hadn't blown him far enough up.

At the Mig 29 crash at Fairford, Didnt one of the pilots release himself from his chute walk over to the other pilot and punch him in the face. Think i remember seeing a documentry about it and seeing that happen

Gotta give it to the French Air Force, that was some pretty extreme flying!

And so is this:
