Went to reset the trip meter, with my hand through the wheel.
Corner ended and I had to spin the wheel back to stop from crashing into a wall and lost my indicator stalk> Still feel like a tit now.

Who puts there hand through the wheel to reset a trip meter, me.

Just got my wrx, drove into my gararge and shut the garage door down like normal. Only I hadn't driven far enough into the garage and scratched the s**t out of the rear wing.

Many years ago (and in another life) at the end of our shift, we always put the marked patrol car through the car-wash, fuelled it up and then parked it in the appropriate bay in readiness for the next shift. The car-wash had the usual two vertical rollers (for the sides of the car) and one horizontal roller. Its controls had "raise" and "lower" buttons for the operator to use to allow the horizontal roller to avoid removing the beacon on the roof of the car. There had already been two accidents that week owing to operator error on the "lift and lower" bottons. Because there were no spare beacons in stock, extra care was demanded of all users of the car wash to avoid further vehicles from the now diminishing fleet being declared u/s and consequently off the road.

Have you noticed that the more careful you try to be, the more seems to be the risk of getting it all wrong? I still can't believe how I did it. Funnily enough, my other career started soon after that.

Saw red when someone pulled into a petrol station and parked in the car wash entrance, blocking it off, got out and went in to buy wash ticket, just as I came out having paid for fuel and bought a wash ticket too - but I was still parked at the pump. That's not cricket, I thought.

So drove to the front of the car wash and reversed into it - "hah" I thought " I *will* get in the car wash first...but misjudged the reversing and caught the front bumper of my 01 WRX on the wheel brushes and ripped it nearly completely off.

Had to tie it back on with a rubber bungy in full view of everyone on the forecourt, and then drive off around the corner to try and fix it back on properly.

Last week, reversing up a pavement ramp to park. Missed the bloody ramp by 2 foot at least, heard a fantastic crunch, so i roll forward and see my NSR mudflap lying on the kerb!! What a tit.
I got out the car and the kerb height must have been one of the smallest i have seen, and i still ripped the bloody flap off. LOL.
Now i am ****ed as the holes are ripped on the car so i am gonnna take em all off now.

some classics so far, I am glad that I am not alone
Here are mine, in no particular order of numptiness.....

Came out of a petrol station, put my hand through the steering wheel to rest the counter, straightened up the wheel and yes, got my hand caught, had a massive panic attack trying to work out how to stop the car !! DOH

Parked my scoob on my driveway (which has a slight incline down to a main road) for a bit of work on it. Handbrake obviously on. Got my trolley jack out, stuck it under the rear of the car and jacked it up.
Wondered why my scoob was now starting to slide forward at quite a rate !!
Ran around to front to stop it and there I was stuck, holding the car, whilst at the same time trying to appear casual like to the neighbours
Youngest son came out to see me, shouted at him to get his brother??? why?
was I going to put a 6 year old in front of the car to stop it.
Managed to work my way around the car and lower the jack in time...now I know that the handbrake does the rear wheels ....double DOH.

Decided to wash the engine bay (as I have done loads of times), covered all the parts I normally do, including the Powertec induction cone with a plastic bag to protect it from the water.
Cleaned engine bay, took off all covers..so I thought.
went to start up engine (for about 3 secs), realised that I had left the bag on...killed the engine and checked the cone. It had now sucked all the air back in from the bag and was now a third of its original size and fooked !!!
Had to buy a brand new one....

Managed to rip off both my mudflaps and in the process pull down the rear bumper on each side....and friends have done theirs on my kerb outside my house..whooops

During a marathon cleaning session on the car, had two bottle that were similar in shape but just different tops. Green top was wheel shine, black top was window/glass cleaner. Yup you guessed it, grabbed the wrong bottle and started cleaning the windows. wondered why it was smearing...got really narked and tried another window.still the same. overspray was terrible. Then looked at the bottle..DOH..had to nearly rewash the car just to get the bloody stuff off ..all whilst my neighbour was rolling around in his garden having fits of laughter.

and finally to end on a high note...

Took my scoob up to a nice deserted beauty spot for a photo taking session (before going to work). Had in the car, mobile phone in its holder, satnav, music was on and quite loud, laptop bag in the boot etc.
Ignition was on but car not started. Took a few photos of the inside, then shut the door to take the outside pics. Heard a clunk as the doors locked !@!!!!!!!!!
Noooooooooooooooooo... tried every door, yup all locked.
No phone to call anyone, so had to leave car like it was, music blaring in the middle of now where, walk a mile or so to the nearest garage, use the guys phone to call a taxi. Luckily I had my house keys with me, go back home, get the spare set of car keys and then have the humiliation of getting the taxi driver drive me back to my car..couldnt stand to let him see me make such a schoolboy error so got him to drop me off 100 yards short of the car and walked the rest. Fully expected for the car to be gone, but no !! there she was, still with the music thumping away

Got in, to find about 28 missed calls from the office..whoops

There you go...fully embarressed now

my first fiesta many many years ago, i fitted a sony headunit to it. Couldnt afford the power cable at the time so, rather than wait till pay day i raided the garage. My old man was an electrical services engineer back then so i used household mains wire to install it.

Wondered why it caught fire ten minutes after i installed it

bye bye car and stereo

SO DONT SCRIMP ON INSTALLATIONS!!!!!!!!!!

Only happened about 3 months ago.
I have a Golf Mk2 GTI as a second car and normally park it across the road as there is usually a space, i live in a very small culdesac so it is only 15 metres away. Anyway, one evening, parked the golf behind the scooby, next morning woke up late and was in a rush to get to work, as it was a saturday i decided to take the scooby, jumped in it quickly and procceded to reverse my own car into my own car.
What a ******* donkey !!!

One morning got to work pulled on to the footpath and got out to open the gates to the car park. As always I left the keys in and engine running. Having opened one gate and proceeding to open the other I spot a lad running in the road, thinking to myself stupid tw@t's going to get run over. As soon as he reached my car he jumped in. In my haste to get to the car I pulled the gate back as quickly as possible, hitting myself just an inch away from crown jewels and falling backwards. Then getting dragged backwards ten yards with the legs flailing. When I finally regained my composure and got out of the yard all I saw was the back end of my car disappearing at great speed. The car was subsequently used in an armed robbery and dumped after being burnt. Lesson to oneself never leave engine running whilst out of the car.Doh!

Topped up the oil in my Accord Type-R. Slight problem, i left the filler cap on the battery and then took my brother into town. Washed car next day and thought id spruce up the engine bay a bit ... o dear!!

Oil all on underside of bonnet, rocker cover and everything inbetween except the exhaust manifold! Checked oil level and luckily enough half way between min and max
