Two years ago, on a French campsite, my lad and his friend were peacefully floating down a local river in a blow-up dinghy, when an Englishman whose property bordered the river began shouting at them to "get orf his laaaaand".

(Apparently, the river BED IS is his land, but not the water.

As their boat had grounded, they stood up on the bottom of the river, to push off, and that's what set him off.

An argument ensued, and matey THREATENED to set his Alsatian on them. hardman, eh?

After I made a complaint, the local gendarmes attended his property, warned him about his future conduct, and his dog's, and noted it in a file.

(I made a complaint as my eldest was due on the site three days later. HE would have deliberately gone again, incited the guy, killed his dog and given THE BLOKE a kicking My complaint nipped this in the bud )

The dog has since BITTEN the local Mayor's wife in a similar incident, and has been put down, while the owner can't own another dog for 5 years due to "using it as a weapon".

I wonder why OUR police can't give this dog's owner a similar warning? I KNOW that HE wasn't using it as a weapon, but it HAS attacked another dog, and bitten that dog's owner.

Alcazar, (refraining from mentioning that, perhaps, as the dog wasn't SPEEDING when it bit.................... )

pc gawthorpe and his cambridge university 'home economics' degree is exactly why the police force are in such a mess

we have fools like that who have no real world experience....just a piece of paper proving they enjoyed the communal baths after a rugger match

they will lick their way through many an @rse hole to climb the career ladder

the typical 'yes man'........is your mum a *****....YES!

where were you gawthorpe when tony martin needed your help??

you need to stop quoting government crime fighting statistics and actually get on the fekin beat

Lord Shrek......would you want gawthorpe attending to your domestic dispute?

Do you honestly believe that every copper in England is a lazy waste of space?? It's just not true. If you came and did my job for a few weeks you would realise the problems we face. Im not superman and im not the best cop in the world, but I go to work and do my best because I love the job and I love helping people.

The Police are simply an easy target for people with nothing better to do to aim at.
If I had a degree and I was an investment banker you would say well done. Because I choose to be in the Police then im "typical of whats wrong with the world today bla bla bla"

I do my best, they pay me, I go home. Im not going to change what I do because of a load of idiots on a car forum think they know me!!

The public's perception of the Police is a real problem in society these days

'I don't act all high and mighty and I deal with people how I would like to be dealt with if I were in there shoes.'

You posts would suggest otherwise telling us your education roots and how no one else could do your superior job!

'Ive been saying for a long time that highway patrol and speed enforcement should be contracted out to other agencies. Lets face it most of the public dislike the Police because they have had a speedign ticket off them in the past!'

This is the most stupid idea i've heard. Giving other agencies speed enforcement powers would be like giving them a lottery ticket. Speed fines would quadruple.

Just thought I would post a reply that was not anti-police just for balance, there are good and bad everywhere but I know I could not do your job for a single shift (knowing who is "at it" but evidence and CPS restraints etc.).
Before I get jumped upon with the "evidence" bandwagon, I know this is required and would not like to live in an "omnipotent police state" but the days of "The Sweeney" type tv cop has long gone but maybe that sort of attitude might result in the return of respect/fear of the police from criminals, there appears to be none of either at the moment.

Because the public have no idea of the work we do and get involved with. They also have no idea of the constraints we work in and the procedures we have to follow.

Like I have said on other posts, we are all not perfect - but the majority of us do a difficult job in difficult circumstances dealing with people who you would never dream existed in today's society.

You would think so wouldn't you..?

But people on here would start to complain and cry about the way we spoke to them when they were D&D on a Saturday night..

If they are D&D then they have themselves to blame, maybe a slap from the local bobby when I was young and a tearaway set me on the right(ish) track.
I now look back on those times and cringe at the things I did.
I think that a law abiding citizen has nothing to worry about (I know there are exceptions but mostly true).
I do however exceed the speed limit sometimes and if caught would accept the consequences( not maybe gratiously) but my choice.

I work in a unit that deals with people who have been sexually abused or victims of domestic violence. You wouldn't last 1 day seeing the things I do!
You assume that I would want to work in a retarded job like that......

You on the other hand sit behind a keyboard in your 6ft x 6ft office at work and slag off people you don't even know!!
It's more like 18ft by 16ft with two glass windows......

Is it a bird? is it a plane? no it's Felix................

I don't know how you cope keeping 25% of those EVIL people that we never dreamed existed at bay...... or do those stats include drunks fighting and kiddies stealing mars bars?

who the hell sticks to the speed limit in this day and age

there's sensible every day speeding and reckless dont give a toss speeding

giving out that advice shows just how out-of-touch you are as a copper

its that type of advice that gets ppls backs up...as if you have never gone over the speed limit and whip yourself with your cat of nines if you do

perhaps everyone should stop drinking and watch the generation game on a saturday night

what coppers need to do is stop lecturing and get realistic

Lord Shrek.....felix.....have you a degree in 'urangatang ergonomics' from Oxford?

No. Since you ask, its a medical degree from Liverpool Uni

I don't really care about speeding - I'm a response officer and not traffic.

The point is if you stick to the speed limits, you can't get done. I know everyone speeds, but just except the fact that if you do, you might get caught.
