Which Mods?

Interesting post this, especially as I'm considering an 18G as my next upgrade. Currently I have: 3" custom exhaust and Harvey Smith downpipe plus sports cat, Harvey Smith ported headers and up-pipe (all heat wrapped), wrapped standard (VF35) turbo, Walboro 255, Hybrid FMIC and wing mounted air intake - all mapped by Andy F. The car is quick with a nice spread of torque ; Andy's road dyno test (below) gave 351bhp and 330lb/ft. I think Andy was able to map a little more agressively thanks to the FMIC. I'm encouraged by what Rob and others say on here about the 18, which would seem to provide gains all round and virtually no drawbacks over VF35. One thng though - can someone explain what a 3 port boost solenoid is and why it's worth having with an 18G ??

should expect around 330/330 with the first stage, then
18g + blanket (£850-£1000)
induction kit (£150-£250)
3" is not necessary, but advised. (£350-£800)
3 port boost solenoid, not necessary, but some advise. (£150)
this will see you around 360/360.
headers & up-pipe will be a good mod (£400)
FMIC (£650-£1000) is optional.

Good graph. What wing induction did you go for?
The 3PBS just allows greater control over boost, when over about 1.3bar. I'm sure a techie will give some more info. But for this stage of modification, it seems it is recomended and a lot of people have gone that route.
It's more a "I don't know what it really is, but i should have one"

A blanket will normally do 4 turbos, and thanks to a generous SNetter, passed the excess on to me. So i'm sure he wouldn't mind me passing it on again.

the three port will help you hold peak boost a lot better/ longer mate.
Mine tails off pretty rapidly but I'm confident the remap with Bob is going to resolve all my current issues.
