Fancy your chances in a std RS turbo against a std Scooby?? I know where my money would be.

Get into the relm of modified cars and it all becomes a very grey area.

I think its insecurity. Rs turbo man just assumes the reason people think hes a pillock is because he drives an rs-turbo. I dont think thats the case - its just the way he put the first post. I think the whole 'rs-turbos are **** anyway' issue is an sub-debate and not the reason he got flamed in the first place.

The reason he looked like a wally was because he was suggesting P1's are 'soooo slow'. Like HOW on earth can anyone describe a P1 as slow??? Even if it was slower than a particular Escort it wouldnt make them 'slow' would it? The post was purely to wind people up and most people clocked this from the first moment they read it.

The only 2 cars that died that day was both scooby's,does that mean all scoobs are unreliable as rst's? answer is no,imo theres good and bad in all.
Yeah, but the point was that NOW they are reliable, due to the kit and technology that is around now. And my quote was 'in my experience' they were not reliable, which meant early nineties

And surely the quantity of Series 1's left on the road is testament to their reliability? (Or how one drives them).

Lol the driver in question got punched in the drive thru at Basildon McDonalds? Says it all really

Anyway, what a lot of these new members who are from some Ford forum can't understand is that many on here have been down the Ford route before getting Imprezas. Before my first Impreza I had a fairly modded Fiesta RS Turbo. With the boost wound up in a straight line it was very impressive. As I mentioned earlier, take the thing out in the wet and you might as well forget racing milk floats.

It's a natural progression to come from something lower down the food chain to something better, just as many who originally joined scoobynet with Imprezas drive some really nice other marques.

At the end of the day spend thousands and thousands on any warm hatch and you'll have a car that is very rapid in a straight line. The beauty with Imprezas even standard is the all round package you get for all weathers and driving conditions. I don't know how much this RS cost to buy and build in the first place, but I have acquired a W reg UK Impreza, slung a new engine in it and by thursday will have a bigger turbo etc, all at a cost of circa 6k, a proper bargain for a usable 320 bhp IMHO.

With regard to the P1 being classed as a supercar on its release, this is from the official Subaru/Prodrive press release:-

Ed Swatman also praised the "sheer dogged determination" of his Subaru (UK) Ltd technical staff including Technical Services Director, Bryan Pimm.

"Bryan’s unmatched in-depth knowledge of Subaru engineering and no-nonsense practicality was invaluable," said Ed Swatman.

Meanwhile, Group Homologation Manager, Keith Hadley nursed the project over seemingly "insurmountable" legal and engineering hurdles.

Keith said: "We knew the noise and emission limits would be a major challenge if we wanted to retain the full 280 PS power output. One method of overcoming this challenge was by replacing the normal twin catalytic converters with a single higher-density ‘cat’."

"However, there was still much work to be done. We wanted the Impreza P1 to qualify as a ‘Supercar’ under the noise tests. This would give us an one extra decibel to play with."

"To be classed as a ‘Supercar’ it would have to accelerate in third gear between two fixed points within a specified time. I’m delighted to say, the P1 qualified."

Hope this helps.

Been a lot of harsh comments on this thread. I don't think this guy is a troll he just has a car he is proud to have and to have built.

All these standard scooby vs standard RST comments are ridiculous lol, by modifying an RST you're just making up ground on the SEVERE engineering gulf between the two, so although his is crazily modified its not out the question he can compare himself fairly to P1 although will have to be modified.

I respect a scooby, its an awesome car that will flatter the driver immensly but still be as raw as you want it, his is a specifically built rocket that also deserves a lot of respect. Why everyone had to attack him so much even after you all saw what an awesome car it was shows the shocking tunnel vision and clickyness of the scooby community. A real shame tbh.

I'm on passionford aswell and have a similarly fast car to essexrsturbo that handles suprisingly well for a 'fwd chav ****box' as you'd all like to call it.

S2 RS Turbo, 2.1 zvh, cosworth racing internals, maram shafted T34, P8, pectel loom, greys, ALS, coilovers, AP 4 pots, 330mm discs, Quaife ATB. 380hp 410lbs

Hasn't cost me 15k but definitely enough for a seriously sorted scooby but for the sheer thrill this is what i'd do all over again. And as essexrsturbo has said already i'd be happy to give a properly modded scooby a go round any track, and pretty sure i'd hold my own.

p.s don't discount my post just because i own a ford please

Yeah it's a handful

Running semi-slicks so cheating a little, but i think it handles brilliantly considering chassis and tranny constraints

Of course it's clicky, it's a forum primarily for Impreza owners, go onto any forum and start baiting like he did and you'll get the same response.

And I take issue with you describing it as awesome. As above, modding cars such as yours and his is all fair and well, but I don't really see how cars like this are much good on wet October roads especially with semi slicks

Eye of the beholder i suppose, awesome in terms of a 20 year old escort going as ridiculously fast as his can.

It's clicky beyond reason on here though, apart from saying he left one standing (which was to be expected with power and being straight line etc) it seems like he only came on here to learn a bit about the P1, scoobynet seems the best place. Us RST owners know we're restrcited to where we can beat a scoob, and i'll admit i've had my fair share of twisty hidings from fast scoobies and evo's.

And yeah mine doesn't see rain i'll be honest

Wink

I've finally read this long thread and my initial response was another Tw*t winding us up about his car being quick and P1's crap.

The truth is most of us do it. We may not write it up on a forum but I'm sure alot of you mod your scoob, race another vehicle which used to be quicker than your vehicle if it was standard and brag about it afterwards.

I admit i've done it.

Personally, his car is not something I would personally choose but each to their own.

p.s. The good thing about a scoob is they have a good starting block to modify on cheaply.

Adam,

Most of us grew up with Fast Fords and have owned/driven one (myself included) yours sounds like a hoot If someone comes on here, as you have, with a high powered Ford (or any other marque) with some intelligent comments and wanting to chat, rather than troll, the vast majority will not have a problem in the slightest (there will always be a few bad apples regrettably)!

However, come on here spouting BS and being generally disprespectful to the marque of cars that the forum is based on -as the original poster did- and it's hardly surprising when people tell you where to go!

Sorry, he went out to get a reaction and he got what he deserved.

"I wasn't impressed" as the opening words.

"why aint they quick" - I would guess that he has raced many cars, if the P1 driver was trying, the Escort would have won but he would have known the P1 was quick.

Seems to me he was baiting everyone, so he could then say he had a powerful car. But you 'reap what you sow' in my opinion.

Indeed. Many people say that owning a performance car has phallic connotations and I think this is accurate: Owning a powerful car is a lot like having a large *****!

Ive read the whole thread - pretty good entertainment really. I also looked at the ford forum too.

Yeah Essex guy started off on the wrong foot, yeah he was pelted by s-net users, and yeah the ford forum were laughing too.

As said above most of this debate is due to his choice of words in his first post. And the fact he put the number plate up.

Still - we all like fast cars, have a great interest in mods etc. The whole my cars better than yours is a bit lame.

My first fast car (well fast for an eager 18 year old in '94) was an XR2. I loved it to bits. Since driving lame cars for work for 10 years, getting a scoob made me feel like I did when I got my XR2. Immense.

I did note that both forums dont particuarly like Saxo's, so at least we have some common ground to agree on there.

no doubt most wont see the funny side of a fiesta pushing a scoob around a track!
and i have it all on video to show how much he was trying to lose me lol.

Still wouldnt mind a P1 myself as an everyday car myself though.
To compare two cars on a track they would have to be driven by the same driver as IMHO the driver can make far more difference than the car.

I have for instance watched the 16 year old I work with lap the Brands Hatch GP circuit in a Toyota Avensis 1.8 (normal standard rep mobile) faster than both BMW M3's and 911's on track at the same time - it is all down to driver skill as clearly the M3 and 911 should be in a diferent league.

Well what can i say that's not already been said over and over again, but i must give everyone from both sides 10/10 it as kept me entertained for the last two hours and far better than the ****e on TV.
I for one actually own a P1, i don't consider myself superior in any way, and i don't have it to make up for my ***** size, it's my third Impreza and many years ago yes i too was a Ford man through and through, one of these being a MK111 RS Turbo Brought brand new in 1987 i chipped it within the first week of owning it and Oh what fun i had. well done to the original poster the mods you have done were not available back when i owned mine, but back to this thread.
Firstly and as already stated i no longer feel the scoob as the supremacy it once had, yes it is still a very quick off the peg motor and most out there are modded in some way and produce some respectable Pub Boasting BHP figures but so do loads of other cars these days.
IMHO the only mistake this guy made was to post the reg No and word his original post in a provocative way thus enticing some of the comments, i could have gone on the Skyline web site and stated i wupped a GTR the other day and guess i would get a similar response, the fact my P1 is far from standard being irrelevant i don't think so, it's Horses for courses i prefer my P1and he prefers his RST, My wife prefers her 1.1 Fiesta ! enough said.
